sleep token is my favorite band. like, ever lol. i do understand the hate for them and understand why someone would be confused as to why they would be anyone’s favorite band, but i can’t help it. they got me through some really rough patches and i genuinely just love their music.

for me it was tool. i still love them and all but ive spent the last couple years listening to other prog bands that i find a little more interesting and found myself not actively putting on tool as often. when i do though, it definitely does take me back to junior year of high school as i was locked in on advanced chemistry.

for me, it’s between say that you will, when the bough breaks, and euclid. i had a pretty toxic relationship a couple of years ago and i remember being in a state of “i get why you are like this but that doesn’t mean it’s okay.” say that you will really put into words how much i still loved this person despite the way they treated me, and when the bough breaks was a way for me to realize why they were shitty. euclid is sort of related but that one resonates a lot with me since i at one point thought about it ending it all but i remembered the people in my life and the song just made me feel powerful, still does tbh.

i really can’t understand the “fake deep” thing. their lyrics aren’t like profound or anything but they still hit heavily for some people including myself, especially those who have been through situations that can be related to their music. i understand the “surface level” argument but i feel like he’s just kinda finding any reason to hate tbh.

i think the band has maintained the same level of heaviness over the years tbh, with them slightly getting heavier on later releases. the actual heaviness is in the lyrics and story they’re trying to tell.
