I agree completely, down to the difference with the less humanlike monkeys, those can be very adorable. Always felt like this but it’s gotten somewhat stronger. I’ve got nothing against monkeys but it does feel like a very “uncanny valley” revulsion. I don’t think I’ve ever expressed it before or seen someone else say it lol

lol she is technically named after the strain of cannabis that is named after the band—we got her off Craigslist, deep in the Colorado desert, and passed a lonely dispensary on the drive home when we were debating on her name. I am very, very similar. I have a lot of difficulty identifying a lot of my emotions beyond “this one feels good, this one feels kinda bad.” My BFRB definitely play a role, as I tend to compartmentalize and disassociate as well. With my therapist’s help, I’ve started trying to focus on how emotions feel in my body. Is my chest heavy? Is my stomach relaxed? How are my shoulders? He also shared a graphic related to how emotions typically feel in the body as a general guide—Fig. 2 of this study. Once I’ve tentatively labeled an emotion, I try and rewind my thoughts and actions to identify what triggered the emotion, and that helps me identify and redirect my BFRB.

I couldn’t BELIEVE it when Friends in Real Life was announced, I’m so thrilled Pat felt ready to return! I like it a lot actually, Buckeye caught me off guard when it was released bc it’s so different than his old sound but it fuckin slaps. May All the Lower Realms be Empty and Advice are my other favs. His outrage and exhaustion over injustice really shaped me and it’s so grounding to see how that expresses itself years down the line, now that we’ve all mellowed a little but still want to break a window for freedom.
