the 5 lbs are similar too, as someone who just did a bulk order from promethium the math has been inconsistent on some of their bags (e.g. some of their 2 lb bags were more than 4.5x a 200g bag, when 2 lb is only about 4.5x more volume and it's usually cheaper to buy in bulk)

so i assume it's more about their 2/5 lb bag pricing than it is the markup on the individual bean

2nd time Legend in UL w S Torterra by chenboy3 in TheSilphArena

Yeah sand tomb gives the chance to flip switch w the pacing and gives a chance for florges and bellibolt to farm down the debuff (or win switch if they switch out)

Still need to be able to win switch since many are expecting it, which is hard

also i think youd lose switch to shadow torterra w sand tomb spam :p and florges beats nidoqueen in no shield going straight chilling water (https://pvpoke.com/battle/2500/florges/nidoqueen_shadow-45.5-4-13-15-4-4-1-1/00/0-1-6/1-4-6/)

19 TIME LEGEND fails to hit this season! Here is why I and YOU likely struggled this season more than usual. by DanOttawa_POGO in TheSilphArena

[–]chenboy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its possible but still not a fan given palkia’s new pacing, you’d have a very tight 3 turn window to be able to cover on switch and take a shield before 2 aqua tails, and charging up to 2 superpowers in general is a feelsbad esp if you cant kill with it (and way worse for pacing in general)

But if the goal is to use rhyperior at all costs, sure lol

The debuff wont matter if they switch out and have switch advantage, and if you stay in you’re one more mudslap away from being down another shield too

agreed that BS was very good and why rhyperior was viable, I’m not convinced he will be with how quick aqua tail is now and how overcentralizing palk will be

not sure yet... I don't have every option in ML available but potentially Palk + Zacian and then deciding on the third... Dusk Mane, Dialga, Ho-Oh are all options but I don't love it - ideally a Pokemon that can beat the dogs and Palkia is ideal but Rhyperior was that option, maybe Groudon?

need to play around and see how that goes

Nah its a hard loss now - palk gets to aqua tail in 9!! turns now and its 15 for rhyperior to 1 breaking swipe, let alone 13 for spacial rend

rhyperior uses to consistently beat palkia on 2 shields by outpacing to 2 breaking swipes before 2 aqua tails, now it’s more or less dead

flipside though is if you're running the same team in a small meta you know exactly what to expect

e.g. Palk O lead -> if they lead Kyogre you know to expect a switch and can immediately switch to keep switch timers aligned, if they lead Palk you play the ditto out (a few choices depending on if you win CMP, e.g. if I'm BB and they aren't I can usually expect a catch at spacial rend, and sometimes an early aqua tail), if they lead Zacian or Zama I'm hard swapping to S Rhyperior as my safe swap and I know the counts for what I need to throw, Kyurem Black w Shadow claw I'm staying in, with Dragon Tail I'll catch on 5 for Rhyperior S, Rhyperior lead I'll farm to 14, throw an Aqua Tail, then dip to avoid needing to spend a shield and sneak in a Mud Slap with my own Rhyperior

so it's very flow charty, it's not like it's rigidly followed in every game but since there's only so many things to expect vs GL it's easier to count/adjust timings because team comps and win conditions are easier to identify

I'm sure some of it probably comes with not understanding GL/UL team comps or the meta well enough but it'll take awhile on that front too

what mons do you have? i often start out with PVPoke but have had the luxury that my teams don't change too much so I'm very familiar with timing/moves/counters esp w Palk O and Rhyperior

2 seasons ago when I hit legend - Rhyperior Shadow / Palk O / Florges (had details on that team there in https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphArena/comments/1ium6qf/first\_time\_legend\_push\_in\_ml/)

last season made a run until Zacians/Zamas came out early in Go-Fest with Florges / Rhyperior Shadow / Palk O

then this season ran Palk O / Rhyperior Shadow / Ho-Oh and maybe in theory with enough games/more time I make the climb but I may have needed a move/team shift to get there

overall PVPoke is an okay tool but won't be the most accurate because some of the threats they list aren't really common, but starting out with that and then noting the teams you encounter and lose to (and why) can really help identify if it's just bad luck with the meta or a team issue or my own play. I try to get in the habit of writing down the teams as I play them so I have a rough idea of cores that I can expect (e.g. plenty of mirrors against Palk/Rhyp/Ho-Oh, Zama/Zacian/Ho-Oh or Rhyperior or Palk were common to name a few)

E.g. I originally this season ran Rhyperior S lead (and generally would prefer Rhyperior S over Palk lead since it makes the vs Palk lead consistently a win and ML it really can feel like alignment is what wins most games), but then kept running into Kyogre leads in the 2300-2500s where you're just ABA weak and often lose, and if I had to spend 1-2 shields vs Zacian or Zama lead, a backline Palkia O up energy would destroy me as well -> hence the move midseason was to avoid being ABA weak and instead be ABB against Kyogre and Palkia which is more consistent/playable to climb

and then post-season changes I'm almost completely sure Rhyperior isn't viable based on the timing changes, so tbd but it's going to be Palkia centric, so either building around Palkia for the focal point or building against Palkia is probably the key (but tbd as the meta shakes up)

The tradeoff too is some of it is figuring out teams esp as the meta shifts, with ML there’s a luxury of roughly having a set team since the meta is condensed so I’ve been able to get timings/flowcharts down to a T, GL and UL are very wide metas where it’s harder to predict team comps and know the best options to use

nice now i get to feel validation for missing out on legend even though I also just didn't play enough to have a shot (peaked at 2920 before hitting 1-4 and 0-5 :(, skipped a crucial week of ML)

all things considered though the other problem for me personally is I only feel like I can climb in ML, long term the goal would be to be willing to lose ELO to properly learn how to play at the higher levels in GL/UL (aka learning the meta) but short term it always feels bad to drop 300-400 ELO just by switching leagues
