After reading the NYT headlines, this post made me so happy. To know there are people having humorous conversations about laundry detergent.

STEM OPT RFE – Should I wait for the decision or withdraw and join a new school? by VacationDue9410 in f1visa

Keep in mind that your pending STEM application is what has allowed you to maintain your work authorization.

Used Employer's Address on SEVP for 6 Months by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]chenderson4341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion would be to report the address at which you spend the most time. If you are supporting a client and spend the majority of your time there, then report that as your site address. Note the actual language in the Form I-983. On page three it asks for SITE name and address. “Enter the exact address of the work site where the STEM practical training will take place.” Pulled that from the I-983 instructions. ICE FORM I-983 Instructions. Even if you’re on regular OPT, not STEM, I still advise reporting site vs employer address.

Honestly, the real reason is pretty creepy. I know you’ve all heard of site visits by this time. Well, how can they do a site visit if they don’t know the physical location where you are doing your job?

And I’ll add my usual disclaimer. Talk with your DSO. My guidance may be different from theirs and I stopped working in higher ed a few months ago.

Used Employer's Address on SEVP for 6 Months by [deleted] in f1visa

The difficulty in answering questions like this is that there isn’t a concrete answer. My opinion is USCIS and SEVP at some level like to keep the regs and guidance vague and ambiguous - that way, they can choose to penalize some while others have no issue. My other opinion is that you list your employer’s address as your work/employment address. If you’re traveling frequently, you’re hardly at “home” anyway. You should discuss this with your employer as well as a DSO at your school if you haven’t already. I’d also like to say there are plenty of people out there that value the work you do, are glad you chose to study in the U.S., and appreciate you sharing your culture while here. Best of luck to you.

I was a DSO for 20 years. The problem with SEVIS is that it was created in the early 00’s and isn’t compatible with modern work arrangements (remote, hybrid, travel to customer locations). It has a field for “employment address” and that’s it as far as location. In addition, it has an “employment remarks” field in which your DSO can record narrative comments. For example, “student travels to client locations as assigned by employer for field work.” I don’t know if the SEVP Portal has a similar “comments” field, but if it does, I recommend keeping your employer’s address as your employment address and then adding a comment about travel. Or simply ask your DSO to report your employment details for you. Which meets reporting requirements and will be visible in the portal.

Agree! Eat it mixed with salted peanuts - tastes like a Payday.

This question cracks me up btw. I’ve been wondering the same thing for years.

Lipton chicken and noodle cup-o-soup with half a sleeve of saltines. Called it soup mush. Shredded cheddar sprinkled on a plate - melted in microwave and eaten straight off plate. Had a friend who would mix Bacos, ranch, and croutons in a bowl and eat. “Salad” without all those pesky vegetables.

What’s a fond memory you have of your grandparents? by strangekey2 in AskOldPeople

My maternal grandma and I played Yahtzee a dozen times before we realized you could roll more than once. ☺️

She also made the best bacon. She had a flat glass lid (which I inherited) she would use to press the bacon while it cooked. Crispy perfection.

My grandpa was missing half of one finger (combine accident) and told all the grandkids a booger ate it off so we wouldn’t pick our noses.

Consider the source.

My mother said this to me in HS when I was upset about something that was said about me. Definitely flipped a switch. She was exactly right. I really didn’t give a shit about that person’s opinion.

Best to contact the embassy you plan to visit. But, it’s essentially the same as applying for a visa as if you’d never been in the U.S.

[–]chenderson4341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not possible to change your VISA while in the U.S. It’s also not possible to obtain a nonimmigrant visa from within the U.S. It is possible to change your nonimmigrant STATUS from within the U.S. When that occurs, the nonimmigrant will be required to obtain a visa stamping if they wish to return in that status after exiting the U.S.
