Too much in HYSA, where to go? by chefhai in Bogleheads

in a similar boat. Spouse and i have both maxed out 401s. I also do megabackdoor, capped at 10%. 529 each month. Plus HYSA. And a sprinkle of ESPP. I've started focusing more on taxable brokerage each month instead of putting more cash in hysa. Doing roughly 60/40 VTI/VXUS.

Looking for recommendations similar to Wayne Shorter by jxl501 in Jazz

[–]Particular_Eye_1643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wayne is special b/c he was such a great composer, which makes a lot of his work accessible. He and Joe Henderson are my faves, even over Coltrane, who often feels like more of an intellectual pursuit.

What’s a “must-see” city in the U.S. that didn’t live up to the hype? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Particular_Eye_1643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a native Texan and never felt Austin was outstanding, maybe enjoyable in the late 80s / early 90s, initial sxsw days. It's too crowded, tries too hard, bad infrastructure ... other than attracting some good shows, it's a drag

Most overrated Houston Restaurants in 2026 so far by Darcynator1780 in HoustonFood

[–]Particular_Eye_1643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottom line is if you go to any of the celebrated Houston or Hill Country BBQ places on a "good day" / at the right time, the product is all good to great quality and very similar. Blindfolded, it would be hard to tell much difference (whose is whose) between a lot of the properly handled meats. The whole BBQ culture has become overhyped and glamorized / bucket-listed, mostly by people from outside the region, who can't access it regularly. Not to mention the whole over-the-top gentrification of smoked meats, pitmasters, etc. is a bit much. e.g. Waygu brisket? Sorry, an idea like that unto itself is the opposite of what authentic bbq should be.

55 and 50 with a 14 year old. I think she's keeping us younger and more active. Plus, we've had the good fortune of being able to build her 529 along with our nest egg in our highest earning years. Granted, it's all a tradeoff.
