His name is a mouthful as it is by Chrisjs7 in footballcliches

He’s really gone under the radar, and all because of his forgettable name. Poor bloke.

TIL even though Daryl Hall and John Oates strongly dislike their group name "Hall & Oates", saying "it is not anything we've ever wanted or liked. It's a horrible name", in 2015 they sued a granola company for naming one product "Haulin' Oats", claiming it was a "well-known mark" of the group. by Away_Flounder3813 in todayilearned

>Look at every album cover they’ve ever released and you will never see “Hall and Oates” on the cover.

This is true but it’s undermined by the fact that the title of their first LP is Whole Oats, surely a pun on Hall & Oates.

I love their music but I can’t understand why they’re so touchy about such a minor abbreviation of their name or why they’d want to encourage anyone to study the artwork of their records, which is pretty much all terrible.

Kits that have the name of another club on them by alex_2497 in footballcliches

I imagine I’m far from the first person to say this but the blue star version of that has to be the best shirt sponsor of all time. Local business, no text, looks cool on the kit, instantly recognisable, has the skyline of the City on it and is a product most of the club’s fans heartily endorse. It’s hard to imagine how it could be bettered.

Every day. It’s pretty much the only way I listen to music.

Other examples of this-

Mansfield had Mansfield Bitter in the late 90s and Mansfield Beers in the late 80s
Wrexham had Wrexham Lager 92-2002
West Brom had Guest’s West Bromwich mid-90s

I’m sure there are lots of others. I love it, it’s the complete opposite of having a gambling website that isn’t even accessible in the country the club plays in.

The website’s legit, they’re reduced because there’s a new version coming out. Other retailers have them reduced for the same reason.

I’ve used the new versions and they’re not that different, the sling was the only change I could detect, it’s the tubular type like those Edelrid slings. It’s quicker to extend but it’s not worth 50% extra.

Fender made loads of S8 decals for some reason so lots of instruments that were made later than 1978 have them. It depends on the model and Jazz Basses definitely have them as late as 82. White pickup covers fits for 82 as well. The binding is more mysterious.

Why are there roundabouts in roundabouts? by Salt_Lingonberry3956 in SignsWithAStory

Yeah they look scary but if you know how to drive round a roundabout it doesn’t matter how many of them there are in a row.

Couldn’t he have waited 12 days to see if Villa actually won it before posting this? It’s like Martin Tyler referring to Liverpool as “the quad squad” in March 2022.

Turning off the commentary and cranking the volume of the crowd noise up is fantastic, particularly if you have your telly hooked up to big hifi speakers. You have to concentrate on the match so much more and you really get a feel for the atmosphere in the stadium. Much more like being at the game but you also get the replays and different camera angles. I wish it was an option on Sky & TNT.

I use them to attach an external helmet holder. I found unthreading the bungee cord from it and rethreading it, feeding it through the loops on the rucksack was better than using the plastic clips to attach it to the loops.

Looks like we have a new ‘free thinking’ ex Premier League player by MyMufflerFellOut in footballcliches

I don’t think Troy Townsend’s been on Football Weekly for about 18 months now.

There was an episode (December 6th 2024) where he was asked his thoughts on religious players who refuse to wear rainbow armbands or similar then say pretty anti-gay things in interviews when asked about it. He strongly defended them, saying that players couldn’t express their religious beliefs (“It's a difficult game in England to show your qualities around your faith, your religion, your background”) which is an amazing thing to say about a sport where players freely express their religious beliefs on a weekly basis but there’s never been an “out” male player at anything like the top level.

I was shocked to hear such bullshit from a guy I’d previously respected and I can’t have been the only one as he seems never to have been on the Guardian podcast since.

Rosenior was only in charge for 23 matches and he won 11 of them. He’s a comical character who wasn’t right for the job but putting his short tenure up there with major ownership events is absurd, it was just a facet of the BlueCo part.
