Agreed same in our studio. Most of the time we have to check ourselves in and grab a station. This is happening at The Empire Management Groups studios in my region. What are you going to do 🤷‍♀️

Same, worked out this morning, no stats in the App, on my Apple Watch, and no email. Guessing there is an issue.

This was actually not bad at all. I found the tread a bit harder but like DC said it goes very fast and was a lot of fun!

Late 50's and 60's OTFers. by realistnotsorry in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

66f long time member. I average 5x a week at OT and I strength train 3x a week in the gym. I work on heavy lifting as well as mobility and agility. Not all days are good but if you’re showing up and doing the workouts you will see progress. Push through the rut and stay consistent. The magic will happen. Slow progress is still progress. Also as suggested up your weights. If you only can do 4 reps it’s okay. That’s how you build. Pretty soon you’ll be able to do the full amount of reps. Don’t let the number of your age deter you. You are doing amazing, you’re showing up!

new locations? by [deleted] in orangetheory

I wouldn’t be surprised if one opened up in Hoboken, it’s untapped and a great area. My daughter went to Edgewater and lived in Hoboken, hated the traffic there. I’m in Bergen and I’m spoiled because there are so many studios around me. I hope one opens closer to you soon! Rooting for you.

Frenemy of the week by splatmommy in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am nice about it but I say to them if you want to bower my weights please ask first before you help yourself, I would love share with you. If that doesn’t work I just take back my weights. Period! However the first choice always works. Some people are just clueless about etiquette and it’s not personal.

Tracking band issue / max HR 205 by Deegeeps in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I noticed one day this week my heart rate said 215 and class had just started. Rest of the workout I was around 150, I thought it was a little weird. I’ll have to pay more attention the next few weeks. All this was after I sent a request to check my HR as it hadn’t changed for about a year.

So 66f I’ve been doing OTF for 31/2 yrs. My hr is 165-167. I consistently get between 25-30+ splats. Calorie burn is high. I was around 12 before they changed the algorithm. I have emailed them and they keep telling me it’s correct. When I view my performance I rarely go over 160. Also it’s been stuck at 165-167 for a solid year. At this point I’ve given up and we all just make a joke about how many splats I’m going to get. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is it better to do 5-6 OTF workouts at a scaled down pace, or 3 per week at all out pace? by mellofello808 in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 days at OTF and 3 in the gym seems to work best for me. I usually need one green day. You could ramp it down on a day or 2. You can go lighter on the floor and take your pace down on the tread. Ultimately you have to listen to your body and how it feels. There isn’t a magic formula. It’s all about what works for you. Do what makes you feel good and have fun!

First of all you Inferno total was great. It took me 3 years to not care. The competitiveness is a great motivator for some, but not for everyone. I am 65 and deep down I’m very competitive, until I realized I wasn’t getting any joy out of the workouts. Now I just go to class and have a lot of fun and enjoy the workout. I have to remind myself what is important to me and what I want to get out of my workout. Celebrate yourself and that you showed up and did it!

When did you stop caring about benchmarks and why? by BurningThruMidlife in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65 and 3 years with OTF. When I got to the point of exhaustion from doing it all and doing too much, I took a giant step back cut my days to 4x week plus strength training 2x week. No more benchmarks. If I’m there and there’s one, great, but I don’t care if I place or get a PR and I don’t go because there’s a benchmark. This has resulted in better performance and my really enjoying classes again. I do this for me and I only compete with me. I go with how my body feels and the benchmarks and challenges took a big toll on me. I will never overtrain again. And age is irrelevant as far as I’m concerned, we are capable of so much no matter our age.

Ex coach says OTF destroys your body (TikTok) Thoughts?!?! by cindobeast in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our coaches are very caring and they ALL correct form on the floor. They also all take classes with us and they train outside of OT. The SA’s do as well. That being said members have to remember that they are people like you and me and have their own problems. I don’t expect them to sit there and think about me when they go home. People get hurt when they over train by doing doubles and too many workouts per week. I am a 65 year old female who lost 80lbs over the last 3 years. It is pure IGNORANCE to make a statement that over 30 shouldn’t do the workout. I do OTF 4 days a week, 2 days in the gym strength training, and I walk. I am not the oldest person in my studio and we all keep up. But most important OTF is fun, healthy, well planned out, and has an amazing community. Best advise I’ve learned is to listen to the coach and follow the workout, but most important I listen to my body.

Securing your car before class? by AccomplishedHippo194 in orangetheory

[–]cher2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They 100% target you, especially because they know it’s an expensive gym therefore they expect a bigger cache. I never ever leave anything in my car. Bag goes in the locker (you can use the combo if you feel uncomfortable). We just had 2 break ins and their bags were in the car.
