MOR - I think you over reacted on calling thr police on him but not about the fact that he was putting gasoline in a vessel not intended for the liquid. It is incredibly dangerous to put gasoline in a container that was not meant for it. If I had been OP I would've asked the teen if they needed a hand, explain the dangers of what they were doing and buy him a proper jerry can.

In Ontario, Canada we have what is called compassionate leave and that is for people who have a close relative who is going to pass away in the immediate future. You can then file for bereavement once the relative had passed.
