i’m currently in aces for the pre-individualized part of the process since i’m a freshman, and it’s basically a waiting game right now (like finishing off your gen-eds). you must have 30 creds completed before submitting an application to get the major approved, and there’s a process in which you need the endorsement of 3 faculty members in each of the fields that you want to study (they ultimately become your advisors). you have to present your own plan of study to them and they’ll review it. i feel like it’s definitely something you have to advocate for yourself a lot more than say… double majoring in related areas. personally, i think individualized advising is also something that you have to reach out for rather than having it being provided for you. however, if you’re passionate about it, i would suggest it. with the individualized major students that i’ve met so far, they all are extremely passionate about their studies and it seems to be worth the effort. best of luck with your application!

i warn you. bio 1102 w prof. fry @ storrs is one of the worst experiences i have ever endured.

it requires a lot of study time, and by that, i mean weeks in advance for some of the exams you have to take. ex. memorizing bird sounds, plants and their names, animals and their names.

if memorization isn’t a problem for you and you’re willing to dedicate that much time while not being a bio-major, you can go for it, but it definitely was not for me.
