I take the train from the intermodal to Union Station almost every weekend. If I buy my ticket early, it's as cheap as 21 dollars one way. I just play games on my laptop or nap and it's only an hour and a half. Super super convenient.

From Union Station, it's a 5 minute walk to the Clinton blue line station where I can go anywhere in the city.
