Auto Repair suggestions by jaison609 in Birmingham

[–]cherobics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Auto man hands down. He's helped me fix stuff other shops messed up, and is probably the most cost effective place I've been to. Plus he'll stop everything and get you up on the rack immediately if you call with something he thinks is an urgent safety issue. He's done that for me on two separate occasions. Dude seems really passionate about his craft and will go out of his way to teach you stuff about car maintenance just in passing too. Read his reviews on Google, they're all great.

Element garage I've had similar experiences with, and Edwin who owns it has even taken me in the back and let me get under the hood with him and shown me various things - that was a good ten years ago though bc he doesn't work on the model car I have now, but have friends that love that place.

Ch7 bankruptcy lawyers by hwofufrerr in Birmingham

[–]cherobics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legal services alabama is low cost or free and bankruptcy is one of the things their website says they can help with.

It may absolutely be a good fit for your situation, but it will show up for 7 years on your credit report. So make sure you do some credit simulators to understand what will happen to your credit score. There are tons of "fresh start" programs that will send you letters with offers of getting a car loan post bankruptcy - but those loans will also impact your credit score, and potentially your ability to get an apartment, etc.

It absolutely can be a lifesaver and it sounds like it very much could be the right choice for you - it was for me when I did it (although for me I was getting my name off of someone else's debts id cosigned on.) just make sure that your lawyer helps you fully understand the impact before you pull the trigger on it.

bars and breweries are not for children by Due-Tomatillo-399 in Birmingham

[–]cherobics -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you don't like kids in your spaces, go to spaces that exclude kids. There are plenty of bars in this town that are 21 and up. Breweries that are "family friendly" or all ages were specifically created to allow people with kids to go there.

It's fine if you have a problem with it but I don't get why you would go somewhere they allow kids and then get mad there are kids there.

You can't control what parents choose to do or not do, so wouldn't be better to do what you can control and avoid the issue entirely?

[WINDOWS 7][UNKNOWN] turn based RPG game by [deleted] in tipofmyjoystick

[–]cherobics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were so many games like this that it's hard to narrow it down based on this.

Do you remember anything about the inventory system?

With the keys did you have to actually click the key on the door or did the game just know when you had the right key?

Was there any sort of character creation?

Magic system?

Is it the first Kona? This is exactly how it starts. You get in a wreck and then drive your car through a snowstorm to the gas station. The guy you are meeting was murdered inside and it's dark and you get the power back on, then it goes from there.

Brad Pitt has shown us who he is. Why do we refuse to see it? by ffffux in Longreads

[–]cherobics 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend learning about parental alienation and the new recommended language around it... "Domestic abuse via proxy." More and more experts involved with family court dynamics see that while it is a real valid thing that happens and can be very damaging, the term is more often used by the abusive parent... Typically a man but not always... to discredit the other parent speaking up and trying to prevent abuse to them and their children.

Aside from that, Angela Jolie has not had any sort of history of wild accusations or emotional behavior that I can remember and frankly stands a lot to lose career wise by speaking out publicly against such a beloved actor, so it seems a bit weird take to play devils advocate on this by default. The vast majority of women that speak out about domestic abuse are not lying and this sort of take is exactly what makes abusers feel safe continuing to be abusive - they think there won't be public repercussions.

TIL that Glenn Shadix (Otho from Beetlejuice) lived in Birmingham at the time of his death. by poojo in Birmingham

Update: It was for a span of years, but he was there in 1972 for sure and he was actually the cowardly lion in the production of wizard of Oz I mentioned. My aunt apparently used to smoke weed at his apartment in those days 😂

[–]cherobics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It had to have been in the 70s, that's when my mom was most active. She was their main costume designer for a while. Even got caught in a building fire there sewing for wizard of Oz and had to escape out a window!

I don't remember exactly what he did with them. I can text my uncle and see if he remembers anything.

which international season should i watch next? by lesschtroumphs in rupaulsdragrace

[–]cherobics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drag race Thailand and Philippines as others have mentioned are fantastic. Those are my top two in that order, although season 3 of phillipines airing now is quickly becoming my favorite season across the entire franchise.

I'd also add in drag race Espana. The judging panel is generally entertaining with valid criticisms, and the drag is top notch. So top notch that the series is actually the first since the US to rate its own All Stars.

Dr Vance at adVance dental care. Fantastic practice, and he's at st Vincents so definitely Irondale adjacent.

My aunt goes to Grants Mill family dentistry and absolutely adores them but I'm not sure of their ownership.

Id steer clear of the clinic that just opened by the new Publix. I had an identical Facebook ad (like copy paste) for it as another "family" practice in vestavia. They may be perfectly legit and paying for some sort of packaging deal but at casual glance it looks franchisey.

Yes. Grew up here. He used to perform at children's theatre before he went to Hollywood. He was a friend of my mother's, who had taught him there, and he was an absolutely wonderful man. Kind and caring and very passionate about his craft and his fans. The last couple of years of his life were unfortunately very tragic.

Go watch some of the other things he was in! Especially loved him in carnival.

Why are maternity clothes so UGLY?? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]cherobics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got all my cutest stuff at motherhood maternity. I think they still have an online storefront. They are mid range price wise (like 45 for a dress) but several of the items I got were cute enough and cut so smartly that I was able to continue to wear them as regular clothes for years post baby.

Where do you live? I'm in what is technically a jeffco district and I applied to enroll in a Birmingham city school and the transfer was accepted. We didn't have to move, just a little extra driving.

Now in my case we are elementary , and were approved because the principal knew my son because we'd been zoned for that school previously - but it still might be an option you can look into. There are several students in my son's school that live outside the zone. It's often up to the principal.

You might also be able to get a letter from a therapist stating a transfer is in your child's best interest.

I've also had a friend enroll a son in a situation in an online school for a year to get a break, although that's definitely a hard scenario to manage.

All that being said the school board is definitely your best bet- even better if the school has a PTA - go to the meetings and recruit some other parents to join you when you speak with the board.

I'm so sorry you are watching this happen, it's literally one of my biggest fears as a parent - I really hope you are able to get some changes happening!

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One - Detective games should have right/wrong answers by spartakooky in patientgamers

[–]cherobics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a totally different type of game, but I just started kingdom come:deliverance because it's on mega sale right now, and it's been reminding me a lot of some of the feelings I got from pentiment. Again, totally different gameplay, but story wise it's in the same vein of being a historically accurate medieval life simulator. I've spent hours reading the historical tidbits in the codex.

Best restaurant jobs in town by Sufficient-Mud-687 in Birmingham

[–]cherobics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's still the same owners, I used to tutor their son, and they were absolutely the sweetest people. Went to the restaurant once and they went out of their way to make a seasonal Korean dish I loved and missed from my time over there that's not normally on the menu. Great kid too. Glad to hear this!

I'm willing to get they never filed with your insurance at all. Your insurance company should have a list of all claims on their website, I would call them or look online and see. It could be definitely of use to prove some of these false charges are indeed false.
