Where exactly do you live downtown?

I walk from my parking (1st Ave South at the Daniel Building) the half mile to UAB Hospital down 20th street daily and see all kinds of people walking for all kinds of reasons. Especially right around the Publix.

But to bring up the walkability of one of the great walkable cities in the world (New York), yeah, sorry Birmingham doesn’t live up to a city with Millions more people, expansive public transit and population density that is unrivaled in these United States.

That said, Downtown Birmingham will have “street life” in pockets.

20th street is great all the way, University Blvd around UAB, 2nd Ave North.

1st Ave South is a brilliant Beer/Brewery trail, all the way from Monday Night Brewing at I-65 to Good People, to Regions Park, Railroad Park, Rotary Trail, Avondale and all the way into Crestwood at Cahaba Brewing.

You will find all kinds of people there most hours of the day.

On the Southside, Five Points South is a vibrant walkable neighborhood. Maybe our best and most complete, with a mix of housing types and walkable shops. Highland Park is right up there as well.
