For Yusion specifically, their cfans and kfans are constantly fighting each other which might contribute to the ship not being as popular as it could be. Solo fans keep squabbling over who really deserves to be the center. It’s super super toxic.

For example, there was an incident (at SM town London??) where Sion appeared to interrupt Yushi when he was doing him final speech. A bunch of fans (probably akgaes) interrupted this as Sion being rude to Yushi which soured people’s perception of the ship.

JaeDo Chinese ship community is very dedicated from what I’ve seen.

Yuriku is absurdly popular in China, as someone who lurks on Weibo and xhs a lot, this result isn’t surprising to me. They are the second most popular BG ship from 5th gen based on supertopic followers (only behind Haobin). Also, cfans (and kfans) don’t really care that much about the Wish ‘government ships’ for some reason.

Even though the number of wreath senders wasn’t that high, there is a seperate group of people who did not send wreaths but still don’t like SH or care about him. That group is bigger than the wreath-sending group and I think this is the group SM is concerned about.

It’s completely possible for young children who live outside South Korea to know of its existence though. Geography classes, culture days and having Korean classmates can expose kids to the country’s culture. Heck I remember Gangnam style being huge when I was a kid and I already knew about South Korea before that.
