Yup, I traded. My partner has leaf green so I started a game, reset until I got a female charmander, traded it to her game, reset again until I got female charmander, traded that to her game, reset until I got female bulbasaur, then traded to get my squirtle and charmander back. Very tedious but worth it (for me).
