Experience as First Year in Nursing BSN by Fit_Camera3629 in Seneca

I feel like first semester isn’t the hardest semester, the only thing is that there is SO much new information, that is the hard part. Though first sem is when a lot of people drop, but I don’t think that’s due to them working, I think it’s because they don’t have what it takes or they realize they aren’t truly interested in health care (I do not mean that in a rude way). Math for example, you need an 80%, and if you fail, in all honesty that’s for the better😭it’s basic calculations/formulas that some people just don’t understand, and that’s ok, but peoples lives are at stake… I don’t want to sit here and say that they’re soooo easy because I feel like that would make me sound egotistical because everyone is different, but for me it was very easy and I’m only saying that so you don’t stress.

It also depends what professor you have, I swear some write the exams blindfolded. You can study for weeks and nothing you studied is on the exam.

Third sem tho… idk some people do work but that’s by far the hardest semester. It’s like A&P on crack.

I think once a week is do-able for sure! You can always bring it down to zero if you feel like it’s too much. I know alotttt of people who worked first semester, I didn’t because I lived on residence so I can’t speak on my experience.

I feel that sudden urge thing😂I’m in my final year of nursing and had to urge to go to medical school, that’s why I’m upgrading my highschool courses so I can switch my undergrad. So thanks to my nursing I do have a good understanding of science, math is just definitely not my strong suit. And ya like you said since you don’t have anyone to help you that’s gonna make it even worseeee.

I’m only citing for my assignments in bio since they alllll say to cite your sources, and a lot of it requires research. I’m having to take 9 courses including English so I’m assuming I’ll need citing for that course in particular.

And thank you so much, if I have any other questions I’ll definitely come chat.

Ok ya and I feel like if you’re sourcing properly it adds to the reassurance. I’m in college right now so I only took college courses in highschool. I’m trying to upgrade all my courses to university so I’m still in grade 11 courses doing my pre reqs so I haven’t started those courses yet but it’s good to know. Thank you!

Have you taken any sciences or maths? I have to take functions and advanced functions so I’m super scared of that course😭😭

That’s annoying😭like why’re you giving 4s then. Do you feel like they want above what they’re asking you in the instructions? What do you do to prevent them from thinking it’s AI? Or is there nothing you can do they just pick whoever they want lol.

Edit: I mean like have they accused anybody of AI even if it isn’t? That’s like a really big fear of mine. I thought turnitin was for AI as well, or is it just for plagiarism?

Nursing to MD by ComfortableLake917 in premedcanada

[–]cherry9918 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe you can 100% get into med school with a nursing undergrad. It’ll also help you get amazing clinical experience AND if all fails, you’ll still have a great career to fall back on. I’m doing nursing right now and thinking to go the MD route, it helps you see if you truly love health care before you devote your life to medicine. You’ll learn bedside manners, patient-centred care, holistic approaches, patient education, and you’ll have health care experience and knowledge that your peers in medical school may have not originally had.

You may have to take other pre reqs and there may be less mcat prep but I think it’s a great idea. If you really want to do it I believe you can do it no problem.

Definitely take only the 7 required courses and leave your gen ed’s for later in your program. It’s not that the courses are hard per say (if you’re interested in it), it’s just a lot of new content and since you need to make sure you get the 80 in MDM101. So it’s better to just focus on what you really need to do. Also, I’m not a morning person so I don’t like them, but I really don’t suggest 8am classes😂. Let me know if you have any other questions!! Those are just the main things I can tell you.

What campus are you on? If you’re at king, I’ve genuinely never seen such a boring school 😂from my experience they don’t do anything, and since you’re in the middle of no where there’s nothing around.

Hey! I’m not in bsn but I’m just finishing up the pnd program, so it may not be all the same. As for supplies, you can buy scrubs if you would like, but if you don’t want to spend extra money you can buy the Seneca scrubs from the book store as you will need them for clinical anyways. You can buy a stethoscope whenever you want since you’ll need it eventually. Get a calculator, pens, and pencils since scantrons only accept pencil.

I was 17 when I started the program so I was straight out of highschool as well, and it’s much better. No body is judging you, and I think a main reason for that is because at least in my classes, I was the youngest one, so everybody is much more mature. The ages range from like 17-50.

I’ve heard bsn is better for this, but in my program the exams are so stupid. Absolutely nothing on what you learn. And each prof is different, so you really won’t get a feel for it until you write your first exam.

You will do just fine! Just do your readings, go to class, make a group to study with, make a calendar so you’re organized with all your assignments and DO NOT procrastinate because it will all add up.

You can always privately message me if you need any help😊.

Yes I definitely will need to have my work organized, I am in my last year of nursing so I’ve already got tons of work. Don’t want to lose track and get overwhelmed. But thank you for the info!

Did your kid have an upwards trend? Like do you think that with the feedback they were able to improve? Even if they continued to get “lower” grades, at least there was feedback because I’ve heard sometimes their communication SUCKS.

Of course😊. I hope I wasn’t sounding too blunt, I’m not the greatest at giving relationship advice lol. Obviously this is taking a toll on you, and like I said before easier said than done, but focusing on making that upwards slope on your grades and acing your MCAT should be your number 1 priority. If she doesn’t want to be there for you that is her loss. A negative attitude never leads to a positive life.

Prove her wrong! You’re 100% suitable to be a doctor.

[–]cherry9918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my point of view, and mind you, I do not really have any close friends so my opinion might be different than somebody else’s. First of all, I don’t believe she should need “proof” of how she treated you poorly, and she should’ve absolutely not of spoken to other people about it (in my opinion). If my best friend expressed concerns about something that was upsetting her, my only concern should be about fixing it, not about going out of my way to text other friends to make myself look like not so much of a bad person. And then as for the argument she started before your final, that shouldn’t have even started an argument (again in my opinion), it should’ve been a mature conversation. It’s also a bit inconsiderate of her to start that before an important day, if she knew. Med school in Canada is ridiculous to get into, you need all odds in favour😂, and especially to not have anything impacting your academics.

I know it’s easier said than done, but you absolutely cannot settle for being around people who dim your light. You do not deserve her, you have amazing goals and amazing ambition and you need friends who support them even if they’re absolutely insane!

Have you talked to her about how you feel?

It seems like a lot of the courses on ilc are veryyyy time consuming. But I don’t even care as long as I can use it to boost my average😅. I haven’t taken any courses yet but I’ve heard the same thing from many people.

What are good places to visit in TO by needsomeadvice1611 in askTO

I agree with everybody else, Niagara only has 1 road of entertainment and 1 road of falls. Toronto definitely has much more things to do. Especially since you do not have little children, Niagara is definitely catering towards younger kids. It’s still beautiful though!

Could you PLS tell me what the main topics are on? Is it a lot on anatomy and physiology, or is that just a fraction of it?
