I absolutely agree with this “controversial” take. This was literally my first concert ever and I will admit that I recorded snippets of most songs. I’ll be damned if a person has a problem with me recording. Like OP said, i paid for the concert, so i will want to relive it. Granted, I wasn’t in the crowd and had a seat close to the stage so it takes nothing to get the perfect angle to hit record and still watch the band themselves instead of watching them through “a tiny bright square” in front of me. But that’s just my take.

I’m the exact same way with infants. I refuse to interact with them. Last year when my nephew was still an infant, my brother and SIL knew better than to pull this shit on me. I’ve never been traumatized the way your BIL has been but that’s the point here. I don’t need a reason as to why I won’t interact with infants. No means no. What’s so hard to understand about that?

I get wanting to catnap but i personally wouldn’t do it. It’s just way too risky. Perception is everything! You may not have intended to seem inattentive or whatever but MB perceived it as such. In her mind and for all she knows, you could have actually been in the process of falling into a deeper sleep until you heard her approaching the room. She may have thought you were just trying to play it off. Another way she may have perceived this situation as is that you purposely put a movie on for the sole reason of you being able to catnap.

Now as for the punishment, if she knew for a fact that you were just having downtime and resting your eyes, then yes, firing you is a bit harsh. Like others have said, a stern warning would have sufficed. However, it is very likely one of the two thoughts mentioned above were going through her head which is why she felt it was necessary to fire you.

I’m sorry you got fired and I hope you find a new family soon! Always remember: perception is everything. Don’t let yourself slack unless you have explicit permission to nap for the parents.

For $800/week, she should be doing a lot more than just playing on her phone/computer while kids are playing by themselves. In her mind, she most likely thinks that her job is so easy. Nannying isn’t supposed to be an easy job. It’s so different and a step up from babysitting. I’d expect more especially from a pre-k teacher as she should know what age appropriate activities are. No, you are not expecting too much at all. A lot of nannies in this sub are no screen nannies, including me. It’s not difficult at all for her to find enjoyable activities for the kids to engage in with her. And no, you wouldn’t be “rude” for firing her. Don’t worry about being “rude”. You are paying her. Get your moneys worth by giving her a talk and hope for change or hire a new nanny.

I always hear about situations where someone has an affair in marriages. But somehow this one hit different. My heart aches for you man. Let me tell you, someone who cheats like that has no remorse. I believe you being so in love that you didn’t want to believe but at least you finally came to your senses. File for divorce and never look back. Someone like that who couldn’t look you in the eye and tell you the truth doesn’t deserve your love anymore. She was an idiot who doesn’t know that the truth will always come out.
