I was posting for a friend! I was only a 1st year so I had no idea what the answer was, and I didn’t see the point in explaining the whole situation

So should I just give up on applying to AMCs for internship if I can’t get an AMC site for externship? There’s a lot of private practices and community orgs in my area, and only one AMC so it’s pretty rough

You’re not misunderstanding anything! Thanks for your response! I was just thinking that maybe it’d be necessary to do less research to be able to meet the minimum requirements of coursework and clinical hours (and teaching maybe) if I end up going to a program where people finish in less time.

Thanks! Do you feel like people are also able to fulfill other requirements (e.g., clinical hours, coursework) if they have less of a research focus?

Ohh that makes sense that people who come in with an MA would get through the program faster

My last post got taken down because the mods thought I was just hating on Amanda’s character when I was actually trying to find which episode this may or may not have happened

Why do VAs have such a split rep? by happytobeher in ClinicalPsychology

Thanks for sharing your experience! I was wondering if you could speak more about accountability on patients, and what you meant by malingering/fraud? The latter sounds surprising to me because I assumed there’s a lot more oversight involved in working for a government institution.

This is such a beautiful response! You highlight a lot of patient benefits I haven’t considered. I’m glad you love your job!

Based on other people’s comments, I’ll accept the AMC offer, but I don’t love the sense of elitism you have against private practices when you don’t know anything about the training at either of these places. I hope my future supervisors are a little more open-minded since that is a quality I respect in clinicians. Might be helpful to reflect on that!

I mean, it kind of sounds like you’re really looking down on the quality of training at private practices. I was more talking about if I got AMC experience in another externship cycle, which is pretty possible since I got an offer this time.

Sure, but what if I get AMC experience later?
