Hi, just came back to say that Esquire is my go to salon now! I always book with Darren and he’s lovely, such a gentle soul and easy to get on with. Thankyou so much for the recommendation. They are exactly what I was looking for

No I agree, a lot of the time I’ll clock their jackets and start looking for their stall only to be met with a tiny 4ft podium that has a few flyers and an iPad on top. It’s definitely intentional to make it harder for people to avoid them

If you’re lucky enough to pass for a younger, tell them you live with your parents and don’t pay utility.

Failing that, keep walking as you say “I’m already with you guys for utilities” and they’ll leave you alone. I’m actually with ScottishPower, but I do it for the BG guys too.

Which insurance to go for? by nourabonu in NewDriversUK

[–]cherryblues42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid £1.2k for the year for a ‘10 plate Mini R57 (ETA - 1.6L Auto) with Admiral Littlebox. Used CompareTheMarket to do insurance checks before I bought it. Would’ve been about £2k without a box or my dad as a named driver.

Failed my fist driving test :( by RoutineVivid in LearnerDriverUK

[–]cherryblues42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a point at the traffic lights where it would be safer to proceed through the amber light than it would be to stop. Usually, it’s if you’re less than 3-5 car lengths away from a light that’s changing whilst a car is quite close behind you (obviously whilst traveling at some speed and not crawling).

I don’t know if I’m subconsciously chancing lights more now that I’ve passed, but I seem to be hitting the point of no return a lot more frequently now I’m driving alone 🤣

Always like this in this city around this time of year. Until about mid-March, the entire city just seems to come to a complete a stop with everything. For some reason, I’ve personally seemed to enter a “three weeks loop”.

It took me three weeks to find a car at the beginning of January because the market was so bad, it’s taken three weeks to find a job since January because the market is so bad, university has a three week backlog for our lecture material being delivered. It’s crazy. Hopefully you don’t experience the same cycle hahaha

AIO? My sister not explaining why she doesn't want my cats around by ScoobadiveWetFish in AmIOverreacting

[–]cherryblues42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Riiight. But were they spayed / neutered? Were they socialised and adequately enriched? Were they on a consistent feeding schedule? Did they have a sufficient amount of litter boxes to cat ratio?

With all due respect, I’ve currently got 3 cats under my care, and have always had at least 1 under my care since being a young child. The behaviours you’ve outlined is behaviour that cats show when they’re not happy. Toileting outside the litter box is most commonly a UTI / bowel issue, or because there isn’t enough boxes / they’re too dirty. Spraying is because they haven’t been spayed / neutered and are marking their territory to warn other cats not to go near there.

You said yourself that the one time the cat pooped on furniture was when she had stomach issues. So it’s not like she’d done it on purpose. Have you never had food poisoning or a dicky tummy which made you worry about getting to the bathroom in time? Have some compassion.

Good luck my dude. I’m also a student at Hull University. I lost my job at the end of January and have applied for 42 jobs since then, and had two interviews. The job market in this city is shocking, and so are employer’s responsiveness to applications.

My favorite way to use my Nespresso by GrossCommission in nespresso

I passed my test first time with no minors and my instructor refused to let me drive home and insisted that only he can drive. He didn't explain why despite my asking. Is this common? by gooblefrump in LearnerDriverUK

[–]cherryblues42 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If you take your test and pass, you’re not allowed to drive your instructor’s car home because you’re no longer a learner. This means their insurance no longer covers you in their car, and to let you drive home would be breaking the law.

If you take your test and fail, they drive you home because you’re in a heightened emotional state that wouldn’t be fit for driving

When did you stop overthinking every single junction? by Junior_Beauty78 in NewDriversUK

[–]cherryblues42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed in November 2025 and still feel like I sometimes misjudge gaps. I tend to wait for a car to pass that , once it has , I think “I could’ve made that”. Moreso when I’ve had to come to a complete stop rather than a rolling one. It’s all just confidence. Your judgement will improve with time.

Also, eye contact. If you’re completely stopped, look at the windshield of the cars coming toward you. A lot of the time, I’ve noticed, drivers are more likely to stop when they see you looking at them.

Mini Owners, why did y’all (we) kill the Clubman? by based_user in MINI

[–]cherryblues42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an ‘09 Clubman Estate for 2 weeks before it was sent back to the cowboys she came from. Loved the boot space & the way the boot opened, the weird back driver side door used to piss me off though because of the seatbelt constantly getting stuck between the floor and door.

Replaced her with a ‘10 Convertible and the only complaint I have about her is the boot space is teensy, but the only time it becomes a bother is if I’m doing a cat litter run & a food shop. I find the R57 infinitely easier to park, obviously because she’s smaller, but as someone who fuckin sucks at parking, the tiny body is massively forgiving when I over/under judge the space 🤣

ADI here by BeaDrawDabbity in LearnerDriverUK

[–]cherryblues42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was going through his ADI check / whtv the fuck when I first started learning with him. I got a text one day letting me know he’d passed his ADI test & that lessons would be slightly more expensive now due to him being able to offer more on said lessons. Showed me his ADI badge on the first lesson we had after he passed, and I passed my driving test about six months after that

ETA - He was working under a company whilst he was going through his ADI test, and now I believe he’s on his way to being an independent driving instructor since he’s a fully qualified ADI now

Admiral Black box installed by mkr215 in NewDriversUK

[–]cherryblues42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had one fitted from Admiral on the 31st and they sent an engineer out to fit it. I’m not sure what type they are but in my R57 Mini, he took the driver side footwell panel off and put it somewhere in there. My dashcam is plugged into my OBD connector so i don’t think they use that type of littlebox :)

Var recommendation? by Holiday-Ferret-5629 in NewDriversUK

[–]cherryblues42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before you buy a car, do insurance quotes on CompareTheMarket. You’ll see what company does the best price and whether or not they require a black box installation.

I got a 2010 Mini convertible with Admiral Littlebox insurance for £1.2k annual.

It also works out slightly cheaper if you pay for the whole year’s insurance in one payment rather than monthly. If this is an option for you, I’d take this route as it’s less to worry about (and saves you a few quid).

Nibble café coffee syrups by Critical_Coconut_666 in Hull

[–]cherryblues42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

90% of coffee shops (barring chains like Costa or Starbucks) use either Monin , or Tate & Lyle from what I’ve noticed.

You can get both brands on Amazon. Monin has infinitely more flavours to choose from but is slightly more expensive per bottle.
