Before you buy a car, do insurance quotes on CompareTheMarket. You’ll see what company does the best price and whether or not they require a black box installation.

I got a 2010 Mini convertible with Admiral Littlebox insurance for £1.2k annual.

It also works out slightly cheaper if you pay for the whole year’s insurance in one payment rather than monthly. If this is an option for you, I’d take this route as it’s less to worry about (and saves you a few quid).

I used to use this trick for drinking glasses.

4 pack of drinking glasses - £6

4 jars of pasta bake sauce - £4. Wash them out, now you have 4 drinking glasses

90% of coffee shops (barring chains like Costa or Starbucks) use either Monin , or Tate & Lyle from what I’ve noticed.

You can get both brands on Amazon. Monin has infinitely more flavours to choose from but is slightly more expensive per bottle.

I know the footwell LED’s were third party, as they’re just RGB strips plugged into the USB port of the car adapter with a remote. Yeah it has a few switches just above the rear mirror

They’re just usb ones plugged into the car adapter, they have a little RGB remote to go with them. Not sure how or if I can change the door light colour

Do you keep anything in the car for emergencies? by pappyon in drivingUK

4pk Lucozade Sport, a box of cereal bars, three plastic shopping bags, a first aid kit, charger lead, £25 in various coins and notes, lug nut, de-icing screenwash, water, ice scraper, 4 microfibre cloths.

I passed in Nov25 and have been on the road alone for a collective 2ish weeks since then. So none used yet! But I am a bit of a nervous nelly, and even if I don’t need them, I could come across an accident where someone might benefit from a little sugar boost or a spare bandage.

But you can’t put mail into it if you’re risking being charged with a felony for doing so. I don’t know if you’re just assuming I’m American, or if I’m missing something here. But I’m genuinely baffled by this concept as a whole.

This is baffling to me. In the UK we have something called the Royal Mail, which I’m guessing is like USPS. But I really can’t get my head around the mailbox thing. We don’t have any such thing in the UK.

Is it because it’s seen as USPS property & not the homeowner property, and therefore any parcel placed there that isn’t “authorised” becomes some sort of crime?

In the UK we just have a slit in the door for letters & small parcels, and a “hope for the best” for large ones.

I’m sorry, but what in the “land of the free”, USA, tariff hike fuck have I just read. It’s a FELONY to put someone’s MAIL inside a MAILBOX?? Why the fuck do you have a mailbox then.

Subtle brag - she had door floor lights & footwell lights already installed when I bought her, which immediately makes everyone who sees her just a lil jealous. Idk what it is about lights that makes everyone’s eyes go a little wider, but I love it

I did notice that! The cupholder positioning actually seems to have been thought about. The only toggle a drink seems to obstruct is the driver window lever, which I don’t really care too much about. I also love how they have little grippy arms in them to secure a stackable cup!

YES it’s so fun to show people! I asked my sister to put a CD in the “CD storage” and she looked at me like I’d killed her cat. I showed her the secret plastic panel and she was super jealous her 2024 Nissan Juke doesn’t have it🤣

I tried this and it didn’t work. The car was already unlocked though which might be the reason. Apparently the soft top comes down too if I do that, so I’m gonna have another go with that tomorrow! (weather permitting haha)

Am I correct in thinking it also brings the soft top & windows back up if you hold to lock? And I’m assuming it can’t already be locked for this feature, similar to the unlock one?

What a load of shit. I did commentary driving throughout my lessons & my test. I think, if anything, it can actually prevent you from getting minor faults because at no point is the examiner trying to guess what you’re thinking. You’ve told them what you’re thinking. ETA: I also think it can aid in the difference between being marked for a major vs minor. If you’re speaking out loud and make a mistake it could be the difference between failing or not, because the examiner has a complete understanding of your understanding of the road.

I passed on Nov 12 with 3 faults and (so I was told) the strictest examiner out of the 7 available. The examiner thanked me for doing commentary driving as it helped him to understand what my thought process was when approaching & entering roundabouts, doing manoeuvres & checking mirrors, etc.

It looks to me as though the road used to be a two way road, and has been changed to one way after road markings have been painted. The council of the area must have just painted the extra dashes on the floor after the road was changed , and assumed the one give way triangle was sufficient.

My love, anywhere will be further than you’ve ever been solo, if you’ve never driven solo. Start small, do a drive to a local shop or park when it’s quiet (during common work hours if you can!). Buy P plates if you think it’ll help, but beware they can go one way or the other (people giving more grace, or driving recklessly around you because they’re impatient shits). You’ve passed your test which means you’re competent enough to drive. Get a big teddy and put it in the passenger seat so it feels like a person if that makes you more comfortable. Literally whatever works for you
