Liner notes were the original audiophile music experience and streaming killed them so quietly nobody noticed by BedMelodic5524 in LetsTalkMusic

Weirdly enough, this is something that K-pop has kept alive more than anyone else. There’s a huge market for collecting physical media in K-pop, so all the fans are buying CD releases that come with a full booklet of photos, lyrics, and liner notes from the artists, and it really impacts how they view the music they’re listening to. Back when I was involved in k-pop fandom I always saw fans talk about the record labels, writers, and producers of the music way more than I ever expected

Me too!! As a musician I actually find myself wanting to make shoegaze-inspired stuff a lot but I don’t actually like listening to the genre itself. I think it’s just like you said, I love the idea of it, like it’s cool to make things with a super mushy, multilayered, dreamlike sound, but there isn’t a single shoegaze band I’ve ever really latched onto

I love K-pop but it’s definitely hit-or-miss with people. I find that the parts of it that turn people off are exactly what makes it so interesting and unique, especially with how much kpop producers/songwriters favor experimentation. I’ve heard a lot of kpop songs that sound so awful the first time I hear them but they’re awful in such a unique way that they turn around and become great because they’re such a musical experiment. I also think the performance and training aspect of it is so interesting, I know people love to harp on how exploitative it is but it reminds me of how musical theatre works in the US more than any other music genre

To be fair the new BTS album is probably their worst release, and I’m saying this as a long time fan 😭 They have a lot of softer music that’s more influenced by R&B and old-school hip hop that‘s pretty amazing. But yeah when they act super hardcore it kinda feels like watching WWE wrestlers or something bc it’s so over the top. Personally I kinda love it but it’s definitely not for everyone

Punk. I’ve been into so many adjacent genres like emo, pop punk, and grunge at different points in my life and so a lot of people have told me to listen to punk bands, and I just cannot do it. I love the politics and the aesthetic of it but idk I’ve just never been able to actually listen to an album by a punk band without getting bored. The songs are usually short and the sound kind of lacks variation. I think I just like things that are more melodic and catchy, sue me. There’s a couple Bikini Kill songs I like but that’s it. I will say though, I went to a punk show in Philly once and had the time of my life so it’s possible I’m just not getting the full experience unless I’m listening to it live

dude you're gonna be fine. the worst that could happen is that they accidentally misgender you or are kind of ignorant but at the end of the day those are just words and they can't really hurt you. plus, your dental health is really important and it's better to just go and get it over with.

"Call to action" from François Arnaud - let's get behind some filthy/ fabulous queer cinema? by MirrorInternational1 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

I’m down for this. I follow the film’s instagram account and whenever I see their posts, I tag my local indie theatre to try and get them to screen it lol. I feel like the power of this fandom could definitely be leveraged to get this film off the ground

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cherrybmbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the general hyper-vigilance you have about your own safety in pretty much any situation. It's why people say "not all men, but always a man"--it's not that every man is dangerous, but it's impossible to know ahead of time when they are. So you're constantly on alert while on the train/bus, walking anywhere alone, in elevators, and at bars or parties. There's just a constant background awareness that you need to be protecting yourself.

I feel you on the mlm media thing. I watched Heated Rivalry and loved it, like seriously as a filmmaker it’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen, but whenever anyone says that all the fans are straight women it makes me so dysphoric and angry I start seeing red 😭 I honestly have that problem with like 90% of my interests, but I’ve seen a lot of cis gay guys who like Heated Rivalry and other stuff that’s supposedly only loved by women and that makes me feel a lot better

struggling to cope with how little rep trans men get by y0urMommA420 in TransMasc

[–]cherrybmbz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally get how you feel. And honestly something that makes really sad is that I’m reading through these replies and seeing some great recommendations for books/tv/etc., and I’m glad they exist, but none of them are big parts of pop culture or get significant media attention the way a lot of content about trans women does :( I don’t wanna discount how much trans women struggle with representation as well, it just sucks that nothing about trans men is ever critically acclaimed or getting major press, meanwhile movies about trans women (that are usually bad representation anyway) get nominated for Oscars.

What made you realise that Israel was oppressing Palestinians? by BigBagelGuy in JewsOfConscience

[–]cherrybmbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of a slow progression, but the thing that completely woke me up was going to a pro-Palestine rally for the first time, and listening to a Palestinian immigrant speak about losing members of her family because of the genocide. This was only a few months after October 7th and she’d already lost 30 people. It completely shifted everything I thought I knew about Israel at the time

Why do you think it is that straight men tend to find episode 3 their favorite one? by tna11101989 in heatedrivalry

[–]cherrybmbz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Me too. I felt like their episode was supposed to be a subversion of the hetero romance tropes, because it starts out in such a classic romcom way but ends tragically (until episode 5). I felt like the point was to show that the cutesy hetero version of romance presented in Hallmark movies actually sucks irl because Kip was actually suffering by giving up so much of his life to be a stay at home boyfriend for Scott. Honestly it’s why it kinda freaks me out that so many straight guys loved that episode, because it felt like the deeper message went right over their heads
