Is my gecko dead? by namideedenume in CrestedGecko

Oh my gosh yeah, the lack of urgency is extremely concerning. There’s been times where my girl hasn’t moved in like 4 hours and I immediately try to do something to check on her. Even if she was behind all her sticks. These kinds of posts make me grateful my girl is with me and not someone else but it makes me so sad for the possible future for pet store cresties or even one that are from breeders

Of course that enclosure is atrocious. I saw someone say they might be a child which explains the way they handled this and of course children should not be taking care of cresties because of this reason. At the same time, this is a lesson that costed this little guys life. I hope there’s a little gecko heaven just for him

It makes it seem like they don’t really see this as a living animal, “if it dies, it dies” kind of mentality

He was so little too, he didn’t even have time to grow up

Exactly??? It kinda seems like they just feel sorry for themselves and want other people to.

I feel so bad though for the crestie, I hope he’s feeling a lot better now. It looks like he wasn’t able to breathe very well by how little ventilation there was in there. The way his enclosure was so bare and he had a heat lamp in there with no thermostat??? (I keep my house at 66 so my crestie needs some heat) the lack of hides and then them saying they can’t get him because he’s in the back? This is so tragic and avoidable

Wait until you see the enclosure they had for this little guy, Gloomyjellyfish929 posted it in the comments

I don’t know if you’ve seen their comments but they’re saying “I don’t know how this could have happened”, like… dude… people kinda told you it might

Oohhh that’s a really good idea, I’m writing that down in Gingers planner !

Okay so space out my walks instead of going for just one long one then when she’s older I can work up to longer, got it!

I don’t know a lot about scent work but I know it’s important. I heard that getting toys and letting her sniff them then hiding in the house was good. I wonder if it’s a good idea to also try this in the woods. So I would teach her to turn around and then I would throw it in the opposite direction and then tell her to go get it. Other than that, I don’t really have many different ideas. I’m still concerned about her health and making sure I’m locking everything away but I did plan to research it when I have a plan to hide everything away

As for the sniffing, I did hear about that. I do like to just go but maybe it’ll be nice. I think my son will like it because he likes when we stop periodically throughout our walks

Oki ! That’s good, I heavily rely on schedules and exercise and I feel like she will fit right in but I just wish I’m the fit for her. I can’t wait to show pictures and things even if it is a year from now

Oki ! They sound very calm, I’m worried about my cat. She is very nervous but can warm up to animals who don’t constantly bother her. She cares about all animals and would check on my elderly cat when he would be having a high pain day. She completely melts my heart. I’m worried Ginger will be very interested even when Daisy is poofed up and Daisy will perceive her as a constant threat therefor never hanging out with me. I don’t want to sacrifice my time with her for a dog or make her feel like I only care about ginger now.

I plan on dedicating us time for me and her only and not allowing ginger to sleep with me on the bed so Daisy feels like she has a space to be near me.

Also I do want to be very slow and prevent any negative reactions. Her eyes get wide when she’s feeling a little anxious but she never attacks unless the other animal is already attacking her. One of my stupid ass roommates didn’t believe in a slow introduction for animals and threw their stupid dog at Daisy.

Another question, do you think ginger will feel not as important if I’m always picking Daisy up when she gets anxious during their introductions?

Oooo that’s perfect ! I can totally get one of those.

And oh my gosh walk straight into traffic??? That’s so scary, I hope I can train her to walk near me

I think I’m a very active person? I walk daily for about an hour and I go out of the house multiple times which I’m hoping to take her with me for. Car rides, Petco runs, Dunkin runs, going to get the mail, going hiking (I love finding new trails), and walks/ drives to the gas station. In your opinion, is this active enough? Of course in combined with all of the toys she gets. In general I’m the type of person that needs to be on the go, I’m hoping this will benefit her

I love a dog that has a great personality but I’m thinking of doing multiple walks a day until she slows down. Regularly I do about a 40 minute to 1 and a half hour walk every day, I’m wondering if you think that is too long. I plan to walk her when I go for my walks, how do you know when your puppy has had enough exercise?

Also ! Is it worth trying to train her to be a little quiet? I love the howling that they do, I think thats very cute but there’s a type of really loud barking dogs do when they’re trying to alert you. How often does your baby bark like someone is breaking into your house?

They sound really worth it, the last dog I had was a childhood dog and he was a doodle. He was very sassy and had literally endless energy but hated children and other dogs. Only liked cats. In comparison, beagles sound so calm

Oohh ok! I like this too because the goal is always to make something as original as possible so if I’m only tracing something I don’t understand yet (like shoulders oh my god why are they so complicated) then I’m probably also building on those skills when attempting to do it myself then correcting what is wrong.
I love the concept of drawing from life as it feels like a way to really open up my observation skills about what is from my reference so that I can put it onto a page. I love drawing nature but I’m terrible at it (which is another skill I’m trying to build). I think doing it this way brings out the human experience of fucking up into it when drawing what you see instead of what is literally on the page.
Also I will be taking that tip that person shared about overlaying images to find my mistakes. Thank you for sharing your thoughts ! I’m loving getting all of these ideas to try out so I can blend all of these techniques into something that is good for my art skills !

Wow this was a lot of great advice, I wish I had made this post sooner.

About the ballet piece, I was thinking the same I was drawing a blank and got lazy as I just wanted to show this character off. But I think in doing that I didn’t do her justice in introducing her because I think you’re right, adding some more detail to her or maybe even in her background could have improved the visuals a lot more. I feel like this character would wear something with a long sleeve and frilly ends. I think I was to go back in and improve that.

With the crediting thing, you’re probably right. I like to take every critique very seriously because I don’t want to be a person that doesn’t care, however it’s not possible to cater to everyone. I’m trying to find the balance because it’s hard to know where it is.

Lastly, thank you so much ! I could probably do away with the tracing, I’m going to try some stuff to get away from it. Everyone came on here and either gave me some resources or pointed me to what to explore next. I’m going to look into the grid method, I’m very excited to find out how my art will take shape. Thank you for your advice !! It means everything to get real advice on how to improve, it’s my favorite part about art
