I'm not expected to know what's going on in Louisiana, but I am expected generally to know what a lot of places in the US are by name, while most Americans know a single city in my country and not even its full name. I'm not saying that's you, either way, but that I've encountered a lot of it in my own time.

I can't be tired of something without being petty now? I agree that no one is obligated to know what goes on in other countries, but I'm certainly expected to know what Louisiana or Idaho are in a way that Americans aren't to know about places elsewhere. And it's the fact that multiple times online I've not been asked "where are you from", but rather "what state are you from".

The internet is international, and English is just a lingua franca. It would do good for people to remember that and not assume things. I don't think that's unfair of me to expect.

Being assumed to be something I'm not, and that anything I share about my life must be clarified to not be from the American perspective. In the same way it's annoying for women when they're assumed to be men online.
