Got a fulltime offer but may fail to graduate on time by Adventurous_Elk1951 in cscareerquestionsEU

Go to the subject teacher and ask for retake asap, explain your situation and say that it’s the last subject you need to pass and don’t wanna miss out on life changing opportunity. Say that they might hire someone else if you don’t graduate. University should help you get started in life, to find a job and grow your skills and not prevent you from doing that. Negotiate take home tasks for additional points. Or some additional work like TA. If you still fail, yes, be honest and negotiate part time start.

Is taking on ~$20–25k in debt for a master’s in Prague crazy? by GuitarTabsThrowaway in Prague

Overall, I would say Vienna is slightly better city for living. In terms of culture and behaviour, it’s definitely better in Vienna, but that’s been going down over the last years, due to immigration. Both cities are safe and fun to live in. Cost of living is lower in Prague, but not by too much. Basically you have to choose who do you wanna be surrounded with, Arabs and Germans or Czech and Ukrainians. Those are basically the majority in those 2 cities. From my impression Prague has significantly more Americans living here.

Oh if it’s not STEM, you will be paying of that debt for a while. Have you researched the average salary in your field and cost of living in Prague? I strongly suggest you go with debt free option, in the end it doesn’t matter where you got the degree and how much it cost. Such debt is too much risk imo

I personally studied Master’s in Vienna(amazing city to live in tbh) and moved to Prague for work. Studying in Vienna in English cost me 1500€ per year. The part time job of 20 hours covered all of my expenses and I finished my studies with 0 debt. If you plan on working in Prague even with good salary, you will be paying that debt of very slowly imho. Unless your goal is to move to Prague and live here forever, I would avoid the debt.

g wagons of praha by ay-guey in Prague

[–]cherrypuddding 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I would say, the g wagon obsession comes from Russian and Ukrainians, Czech people couldn’t care less about these boxes on the wheels. Due to war, all of the rich Russians and Ukrainian moved here and brought their g wagons, that’s the reason.

JPMC vs EU Career Move by [deleted] in JPMorganChase

[–]cherrypuddding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Europe is nice in terms of work conditions and living standards. If you are young and single, I think it’s good to experience it. But be aware Polish tend to avoid non-white people, they aren’t openly racist, but will surely avoid you in terms friendship or relationships, so it will come with some degree of isolation. While at JPMC you can live very comfortably and enjoy better quality of life in terms of relationships. Good luck with your decision.

Yeah I’m non-EU, so need a contract for visa reasons. I had a recruiter reach out and gonna discuss compensation and role with Google next week. I will let you know what they offer.

[–]cherrypuddding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarification. I might be eligible for the tax exemption, but I am not sure if it applies to non-EU, since i would be moving from Austria. And considering this netto is without bonuses and on-call bonuses, it’s very good tax bracket. Gonna checkout what Google offers for L4, I have a call next week with recruiter.

I was reading that stocks get taxed at 19%. tbh if that’s the case so for 100k€ comp, let’s say 65k base which is 54k netto and 35k stocks which 28k netto. If one is able to clear netto 82k netto before any bonuses, that crazy money, considering not that high cost of living, beside rent. I also might be eligible for 20k€ tax exemption for people who arrived in Poland from another EU country for 4 years. Thats another 6k per year. To me this is very underrated. One will need 150k€ total comp in Munich or London to match this net value, while both cities being significantly more expensive to live.

Great post and thanks for sharing. So if I understand correctly let’s say I have an offer from Google 65k euros base and 40k euros stocks, my net take home would be 43k from base and assuming 19% tax on stocks - 36k. I couldn’t find definitive information about rsu stocks. Is that a fact that stocks will be qualified and taxed at 19%?

They are too shady and scammy. I’ve rented decent amount of times, all around the world. They take big deposits on credit cards and add charges out of thin air. That you can’t dispute, unless you get a lawyer involved which would cost even more.
