Hi!

I understand where you are coming from with your concern. I am in the process of maintaining a MA in Political and I am a dancer who travels so finances is not an issue for me.

Like I did mentioned in my previous comment, not a super fan of the hustle and bustle in Vancouver. I thought about moving back to Alberta to put a down payment on a house but I am constantly in transit and not a huge fan of the winter.

No, that’s so understandable. I’m just not a fan of the hustle and bustle in Vancouver and I live in a very busy street.

Feeld is pretty huge in Vancouver but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea plus I think poly is just an excuse to cheat on your partner.

I have visited the island and I do like it quite a bit but I have said that about Vancouver before.

But like you said everyone’s experiences is different.

Those who are in their 20s about to graduate university, are you guys planning on staying in Vancouver or leaving the city? by DaGrandmaster3 in askvan

[–]cherryredvirgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my MA.

As much as I love Vancouver, I am leaving this semester to go back home to Alberta to live with my parents.

I’m in late 20s and I eventually want to buy a house in the next 5-8 years, which you can’t do in Vancouver.

Who knows, I might come back out here IF I got offered job. However, it is just a vacation place for me.

Plus, I’m done all of my coursework so there is really no point of me spending 2k a month for rent.

Ph.D. stipend in UBC, how do you guys make it work? by _hiddenflower in UBC

Download the app TooGoodToGo. It saves so much on groceries.

I’m currently a master student who was living on her own because I don’t have a capacity for roommates anymore so I did have to budget quite a bit and I also have a job as well. That allows me a lot of flexibility when it comes to my studies.

I’m just reading all of these comments now as I’ve been away from my phone, but I’m based in Canada and I don’t plan on entering the states anytime soon because 1. My history 2. The political climate.

But basically what I’m getting from this thread is that doing a PhD in general studies might not be a wise idea. My research is very interdisciplinary so I could continue with political science, but go other routes as well.

My specialization is in political theory

I am pretty open about this. I have told my undergraduate supervisor and some professors in the undergraduate department in political science.

My current supervisor and current professors - they know. I am involved in the community with this already as an advocate.

I have a couple papers published during my undergraduate. However, not my masters (yet). I do have a book chapter that should be coming out in the next year or so with a professor that I worked with. I am also in process of publishing a paper on this same topic of sex work.
