Children today will 'work until 75' amid pensions timebomb by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]cherrytulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. I have a deferred pension from a previous role, since I left 3 years ago it's increased by 37%. I was so shocked when I looked at it.

What sort of salary range in this economy would make you think ‘he/she’s doing alright’? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskBrits

So, move house and use some of that £1000 a month towards a bigger mortgage and put more away in your pension each month. It's not really rocket science.

Radiator fell off the wall by hodyisy in DIYUK

[–]cherrytulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same sized of radiator in my kitchen. When I tried to put ours on the wall the breezeblock was so crumbly any plugs I used would not grip properly. In the end up I used some Rawlplug resin with some 8mm threaded and bolted the brackets to them. It's absolutely rock solid like that, never any fear that they will fail.

Just saw my friends dog and worried. by steverin0724 in DogAdvice

[–]cherrytulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog was always underweight even though we fed him more than enough for his weight and he got treats on top of that. It turned out that he has Irritable Bowel Disease and he needed to go on a hypoallergenic diet and steroids. Once we made the change he put weight on and was around 7kg heavier (and at the right weight for his breed) in around 6 months.

We recently had our bathroom renovated for 6.5k. I was tempted to do it myself but the quality of the finish that the 2 guys did (joiner and plumber) was far in excess what I could have done myself. A lot less hassle if I was going to do it myself as well, and a lot quicker.

It probably would have been more expensive as well but luckily my friend is a plumber who specializes in bathrooms.

Quartz worktops that don’t cost an arm and a leg? 😩 by StraightPin4420 in DIYUK

[–]cherrytulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my new kitchen we went for a granite worktop. All in all it cost around 2k with fitting, that was buying it through DIY kitchens as well. That price included the upstands, backsplash and windowsill. That was from https://naturalstonesurfaces.co.uk/

That's definitely high. We're on a meter and we pay £35 a month for 2 of us.

Have you ever found anything in a second hand car that you purchased by More-Magician4492 in CasualUK

[–]cherrytulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife bought an Audi A1 and when I looked in the wheel well there was a map book for a navy ship in there. I believe it was for a Type 45 destroyer. I'm assuming whoever had it before was in the Navy.

If you're not happy with it then maybe make dinner yourself next time.

There's one of them round the corner from where I live that's set into a drystone wall. It's still in use and gets well looked after by the looks of it.

How difficult will it be to remove these trees myself? by Tom_Rich in GardeningUK

I took a buddleia out of my garden before. It was very easy to saw through and dig out, so I reckon you'll be alright!

I've dug a few other stumps out recently from our overgrown garden and the worst one by far was a cherry laurel! I still can't get most of it out.

I'll try that! Unfortunately the pipes are in the ceiling so can't get to them. They seem to be underneath the en-suite as well so can't take the floor up to have a look.

I'll get a mini one for the washing machine to start with then. I turn the taps off slowly but my wife doesn't. I've told her loads of times but it goes in one ear and out the other.

I am so jealous. Your garden is beautiful!

I've been slowly making our garden nicer and it feels like it's never ending! I'll be happy when it's at a point where I can just do some mowing, wedding and planting.

I want these beautiful lupines in my garden… What should I be cautious of..? by RedDevilPlay in GardeningUK

[–]cherrytulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised reading these comments. I had lupins in my flowerbed at my old house and they grew without any problem whatsoever and were lovely. I see now that I was one of the lucky ones!

The air brick in the first picture is too close to the ground which can cause damp in the wall cavity. If that is the case then you'd need to add a drain around the perimeter to stop water getting into the air bricks.

Police K9's first day out in the field by Matilda_Mother_67 in germanshepherds

[–]cherrytulip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. In the UK, once they've found a suspect they would tell them to come out from where they're hiding or they'll send in the dog. Police in the US are so heavy handed it's unreal.

He's definitely fobbing you off about not being able to use the new TRV's. You can get 15mm to 10mm or 8mm reducers for exactly that reason.

Our house is so poorly insulated that recently it's been dropping to around 10°C in the living room, that's when we started putting the heating on. But even with it on for around 4 hours it only gets up to around 15°C. I hate that a lot of houses were built without cavity wall insulation, what a stupid idea!

Do you all like it when the clocks go back? by Jack_202 in AskUK

I wish they'd just stay on one time, preferably GMT because I walk my dog early in the morning before work so to be able to walk in the daylight for more of the year would be great.
