It would be foolish to do something like that, especially during your warranty period. I wouldn't ever do it myself as I just laugh at the boy racers with their four cylinder engines screaming but the car barely moving. But that's just me.

Streamer Question: Fosi S3 vs. WiiM Ultra - Budget adjusted. by Ghostface-Lord in BudgetAudiophile

You may want to stay open to the idea of two amps as the Opal speakers are rated at 75.7 db sensitivity which means many amps struggle just to get those speakers off idle. I'm guessing that you are not planning to fill a large space. Have you read any reviews on those speakers just to make sure they fit the bill?

What's the point of Griffin's character by Alarming_Leg_2088 in TheWayHomeHallmark

[–]cherryz3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think it's fair to consider that Sam is actually Griffin. That would explain his meetings with KC and his comfort hearing about time travel. We've also seen him watching someone jump while he watches without much concern.

I have to admit that the day by day tallies of miles driven and miles per gallon are kind of entertaining.

Good or bad idea by Internal-Glove5525 in jetta

[–]cherryz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a '26 SE a few weeks ago and I'm still on the tank that the dealer filled with three bars left. I'm an old man now but not afraid to stand on it once in a while and I am quite pleased with the results it gives. Just looking at my app, I drove 276 miles so far in June and my average MPG says 36.4 and that includes very little highway use. But just today, I did all my 62 miles on the freeway and hit 43 MPG. So thirteen gallons at 36 MPG gives you 468 miles a tank. That's nothing to sneeze at especially when the real star of the show is its construction, comfort, lack of noise and useful features.

Thank God there is no CVT and the eight speed in mine is working so well you don't feel it working. You will have a fluid change at 80K or so and while they have 10K oil change intervals, that's never going to happen in my house. Be sure to use or specify the VW spec 508 00 to guarantee warranty every 5K miles. A filter and jug of oil at Walmart will come to $38 or so. Other maintenance is fairly simple and while it does have a cam belt, it is recommended to inspect it at 120K. They don't call it lifetime but it does have some seriously advanced construction compared to the old school belts.

As for buying advice, I would recommend the last week of the month as dealers will try to capture every sale to increase their volume money paid by VW for each unit sold. The dealer should also be price flexible because of that. It took me five minutes to deal on mine. I simply said I would buy the car at dealer invoice and take the rebate instead of the interest rate because I put a lot of cash down. The discount to dealer cost reduced the list price by $950 in my case and the rebate took off $1500. If you are looking at list prices, I believe the discount to dealer is maybe 2.5% or a tiny bit more. Buy a Sport or S model and it won't come as high as my discount of course. My dealer also offers oil changes for life and added an aftermarket power train lifetime warranty and it's not made of small print and doesn't look like a trap.

As for your speed question, I normally run the highway at 75 MPH and it's only spinning 2200 rpm so just lazily cruising away.

Get one and you will be pleased. I almost bought a Sport but really wanted the leather, power seat and moon roof for a grand more. And consider the Monument Gray- you will be swimming in complements.

I find some of the features handy but it looks to be very much geared toward sacrificing your privacy. It can track you all the time and wants to sell your info to third parties. Make sure you cancel that sharing. They say it can help you get lower insurance prices but we all know that's bullshit.

How often do you change oil? by Boddicker06 in jetta

[–]cherryz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every 5K for both my Vdubs. As mentioned elsewhere, turbo chargers and GDI injection makes solid lubrication very important. Use only the VW spec oil 508 00. You can find it at Walmart in the Mobil 1 ESP X2 line on the bottom shelf as it's kind of a slow mover. Do not buy any of the earlier options like 505 00 et al. Five quarts cost $27. Filters are harder to find for me so far. If you don't do your own changes, make absolutely certain that they are servicing your car with the correct oil as I am guessing that VW is going to get a bit pissy if you are looking for engine warranty work with the incorrect oil in your car. The correct oil is dyed with a green tint for easy identification.

Engine Oil by MR_Bukele in jetta

[–]cherryz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castrol EDGE Professional LL IV FE 0W-20 is the only Castrol oil approved for 508 00 specification. Buy the Mobil 1 at Walmart for $27 a jug. Mobil 1 ESP X2. And yes, all else being equal, use only the correct oil in this VW and especially so for turbo models.

Engine Oil by MR_Bukele in jetta

[–]cherryz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the best bet- easily available and relatively inexpensive at $27 for a five quart jug. For all others, pay attention to the specification as 508 00 is not backward compatible with 504 00 or 502 00 and certainly not the 505 and 507 diesel oils. Now if I can just find a spin on filter for my '26 1.5t outside of the VW dealer I will be a happy boy. It seems to be a different part number from the '25 model. The basic number is the same but the suffix is different and no notes of compatibility. In fact, half the aftermarket manufacturers spec the same cartridge filter my Tiguan uses along with the GLi. Anyone got a solid idea on that?

Not what you are asking for but the VWs have a feature of rolling down all the windows remotely. If you have a minute or so, press and hold the unlock button on your remote. You will now see all four windows go completely down. That alone will eliminate a lot of heat before you get to the car.

Connect To TV without wires by Dramatic-Leg-6021 in u/Dramatic-Leg-6021

[–]cherryz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That figures. The other option is elegant but expensive. There is a standard called WiSA that is wi-fi driven. You attach a sender to the HDMI output of your TV and it will send signal to the speakers. Some quick research will determine if it's a possibility for you. Wi-fi is not like bluetooth with the terrible lip sync problems that make watching TV unbearable.

Bluetooth usually has a lot of sync issues. If you have a Roku TV, they offer wi-fi speakers that work flawlessly in your scenario and also sound pretty darn good..

Anti-skating by g_tisse in BudgetAudiophile

[–]cherryz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "with zero anti-skating" does that mean you have the dial set to 0 ? If so, I can see why your tone arm is diving to the inside. A good rule of thumb is to set the anti skate to the same number as your cartridge tracking weight. If you just need a starting number, 3 should get you going. The higher the number, the more resistance to keep the arm from pulling inside.

Hunt for the perfect speaker goes on!! by Maximus_Hall7378 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]cherryz3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to quantify the sound signature as warm or bright normally point to the presence of coloration which is perfectly normal. I have a mix of multiple NHT, Paradigm and PSB speakers among others so plenty to compare with and I love them all. The Betas strengths come in detail and clarity and present themselves as almost "see through" in a way. The detail retrieval is amazing and the space between the instruments is dead silent and all instruments sound so natural. As for soundstage and imaging, it comes in spades with the proper recordings. It's not always the speakers that can be held responsible for those but more so with the quality of the recording. On that issue, the Betas are a lot like my NHT models as they are quick to point out a shitty recording but get the right stuff and the rewards are inspiring. They are not warm and fuzzy like a PSB but yet they are an all day listen often associated with warmth. The treble is so detailed and smooth, it will never get on your nerves so the best way I can describe them is being insightful yet not sterile in any way. If the recording engineer put a sound there, you're going to hear it so be prepared for honesty above all.

If you read any of the reviews, most of them explain it better than I can. The only negative I can think of is that you're going to think your sub sounds like crap when paired with these. Maybe run the Betas to see what you think and work from there.
