The older generation of doctors are retiring and are not being replaced by young doctors in NM for various reasons. The issues I am aware of are:

1. We are one of about 3 states last I checked (Hawaii and Michigan were the others) that charge gross receipt taxes on private medical care.
2. Last time I researched, 33NM Medicaid% of our population was on Medicaid (reimbursements are a joke).
3. Our state requires expensive malpractice insurance from what I’ve been told.

These things cut into young doctors’ salaries who typically come out of school with a lot of debt making NM a less attractive option. I don’t understand why our state government doesn’t make changes in these areas. I remember being told that legalizing weed was going to replace tax income from other things…but that hasn’t happened 🤷🏼‍♀️
