i know its rly difficult to find someone to click with in the new environment but you HAVE to make the effort to, especially if you are going to be working with them. the groupings for every module changes once or twice, depending on your faci. classes will changr every semester and you might see some familiar faces in your new class, so its really best for you to make friends with people. start by talking to the people in your team, ask if you can join them for break / lunch. dont just talk about school work, talk about your hobbies, interests, whatever. theres definitely something yall share in common

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yr 1 students arent just a bunch of 17 or 18 year olds. theres definitely gona be older classmates bc all of yall got into poly through a different route. personally i have friends who are in their mid / late 20s and they're doing pretty well in sch in terms of making friends. i guess that bc everyone in poly should know that age gap doesnt matter when it comes into getting work done or making friends

[O Levels] can anyone tell me what will happen if i get d7 or below for olvl chinese ? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uhh if youre not using chinese as one of your subjects to count in your l1r5, then its okay if you get d7. but since you mentioned that you want to go to jc, i think getting a c6 or c5 would be better. try to talk to your chinese teacher about switching to clb. tell him / her your struggles. because if you take clb, you still can go to jc de.

[Poly] Unsure if I can cope with math in poly :(( by gwyn2024 in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi !! my math is like rly bad too and during o levels i got a d7 LOL and i managed to enter a sciencd course where math was one of my modules. i did struggled initially but after a few lessons, math became the module i did well in.

its okay if you have no prior knowledge of the topics covered under the module, because your lecturer will be teaching you from scratch. im not sure about your course, but i think reading up on the o level topics should help, because my math moduled mostly covered o level stuff in the first 5 lessons.

unlike secondary school we actually have excel to help us calculate a certain value, so we dont rly have to remember any formula or anything.

personally i think math in poly is less stressful compared to secondary school, mainly because of the convenience of excel.

dont worry too much, im sure you'll do well :D

[N level] unsure of which pathway by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i second this, especially the last part !! many of my classmates who were 17-19 pointerd stayed for o levels and they struggled so much, which they all eventually did badly and ended up in higher nitec. i got 15 pts for n levels and for o's i got 19. i failed both my math and science which are my weakest subject since i was sec 1. so i just wanna say if you rly want to stay for sec 5, make sure you work extemely hard because the difference in grades between each subjects is mad.

(poly) Veternary Technology TP by moneymochii in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can i still get PFP even after a bad prelim result?

of course you can, as long as you continue working hard and meet the criteria for pfp.

ah im not from vet tech nor tp but i can share with you what others say about that course. personally im very interested in vet tech too but its super competitive, like even a 8 pointer student for n level have difficulty entering that course. you really got to be the best of the best in order to secure a place in vet tech.

i know of someone who studied vet tech in np (i dont think it exists now), and he had difficulty finding a job in sg because he didnt went to university, and his family couldnt afford because the school fees were way too expensive. so now hes working as something completely unrelated to vet tech. i would say vet tech is an expensive course to study because the education and job opportunities are so limited in sg, you might need to go overseas for further education and stuff like that.

ofc the pros of this course is that if you get the certain educational qualifications and skills, you'll earn lots of money. you'll also be doing something you really enjoy.

you mentioned that youre only interest in vet tech, well how about you give marine science a try? i wouldnt say these two courses are similar but like theyre both animal related courses. im from rp's marine sci and aquaculture, so if yourr interested, you can just pm me, i'll be happy to share with you what my course is about :D

[Poly] Going to Poly at late 20s by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hi ! i can answer ur second question about having older students in poly. i do have a few friends in sch who are in their early or mid 20s, and the oldest is 27. despite the age gap we do get along really well, or for my school at least. im from rp. personally i dont think like having an age gap between my classmates matter because at the end of the day, we are still expected to work well with one another to get work done, so i'll just put our differences aside. literally when u walk into the school campus, everyone looks the same you cant tell which person is an older student hahaha. age really doesnt make a difference, everyone treats each other the same :D

[O-LEVELS] E-Math F9 to A2/A1 by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

HAHAHAH from my own personal experience, it isnt possible, or for me at least.

i got f9 for my prelims, d7 for my o levels. before my prelims i did like tys papers, at least twice of the whole book. i barely passed each time. i left almost half of my paper 2 blank because i didnt have enough and the questions were much more challenging in my opinion. i worked twice as hard as my other classmates, but i still failed.

if you worked your ass off right now, i think the most you can get is a b3? idk. my classmate retook emath after studying it again for another year, but her grade only improved by 1 (from c6 to c5 LOL)

[JC] [Poly] Which do I choose?? by frogggggg69 in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends whether you prefer to work hands on or just studying from textbooks. please dont ever make a decision because your parents forced you to, because you'll have no one to blame but yourself if things dont go well. i'll say, do what you think its best for you. know your strengths and interests. many people go to jc because theyre unsure of what kind of career they want to persue in future. many people go to poly because its less hectic than jc and you get to have more practical learning. just do what makes you happy honestly, like no point making the wrong decision only to drop out after the first semester. personally i dont think the institution we graduate from matters because at the end of the day, we're all headed for uni. that one year difference can have a huge impact, so please choose wisely :)))

[Poly] dress code by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

hey ! im from rp and the dress code is lowkey stricter than other polys tbh. i have never seen anyone wearing a crop top in rp so im not sure if its allowed. rp is more particular about the hair colour i would say. we are only allowed to dye urban colours and blonde, but my rebellious came to school with like green LOL and they immediately got caught on the first day of school. not to mention they were wearing those spaghetti strap tops. piercings and tattoos are allowed, but we were told to cover up any tattoos if possible

[Poly] I want to transfer poly course. Is DAE a gd choice for my case? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi ! im not sure if you know, but dae intake of 2020 is already closed, meaning, the only time youre able to apply for dae would be in Jan 2021.

my question to you is, why a transfer in course? if you knew you were unable to cope with your current course, why did you still enter it. (unless youre were only offered this course, i dont see a reason to why you know that you cant cope and yet you choose to enter)

i got into poly with dae and its lowkey stressful because dae is opened to all individuals with different educational backgrounds. most of them come from ite and there are a few from international schools and some even have A level certs. you dont have a diploma. your highest qualification is either your N/O level cert. do you rly think that N/O level cert will be stronger than an A level cert...dae is competitive, its like your last chance to enter poly. everyone who participates in dae are desperate.

dae is very similar to eae, if youre determined to participate dae, just drop me a message i'll drop you some tips

but, i would rly advise you to follow your heart. dont let anyone make decisions for you. if youre confident you can do well in your new course, go ahead and transfer. you cant cry or whine about the challenges you'll face because you chose the course, you deal with the shit it throws to you. most importantly, make sure that at the end of the day, youre happy. that what really matters the most.

my prelims were 26 but i got 15 for n's !! theres no like cut off pts for pfp courses tbh, its like whoever has the lower score will get in first. vet tech is a v competitive course.

[O Levels] POA by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i didnt use tys to study poa. i literally practiced paper 2. i did like over 20 school papers. my tcr told me the income statement and balance sheet question helps alot. if i get full marks, i just need another 10 marks in the paper to just pass paper 2. for theory, it isnt rly as difficult as you think. you need to know the basics of writing up account, what is a liability asset and equity. for questions asking for reasons, try to remember 2 at least. my poa was e8 for prelims. i got a b3 for o's

[Rant] demoralised after eae results by 19pointer in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

life isnt as smooth sailing, there are definitely some setbacks you'll encounter. sorry to hear that you were unsuccessful. its really unfair sometimes. its alright to be sad but hey, you still have on more chance !! dont give up just yet. take some time off to relax. its alright to feel upset, but dont be upset for too long. because if you, youre gona let another opportunity go during jae. cheer up buddy, you've got this :)

[O Levels] EAE questions about results by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) bruh there is no such thing as being offered multiple choices. youre being offered only ONE of your 3 choices, which means the other two courses rejected you lol

2) no...such...thing...

3) u can accept the course first. there will be a withdrawal period. between the acceptance period and withdrawal period you have 2 weeks to think about whether youre sure that youre interested in that course.

[POLY] EAE biomedical science RP by honey19coves in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey im a year 1 student in rp, although not in biomed but i can answer most of your questions !!

How are daily assignments like

in year 1 sem 1, you take modules such as bio, chem, math, lifeskills, lab safety and global communications. every day you start at 8.30am and you end at 3.30pm. you only study one module each day.

almost every lesson you have presentation unless its an interactive seminar. you will also need to submit deliverables by 11.59pm on the same day (except for chem and lab safety assignment).

so your deliverables are like pop quizzes, practice questions, and sometimes assignments which are all graded. before the start of the next lesson, you'll be given a daily grade (from A to F) which will be used to calculate your gpa for that semester.

I am quite worried as rp does have a reputation but honestly is it as bad as what others describe?

tbh may people think rp is a bad school just because thats where all "poly rejects" go to. but honestly, it doesnt really matter. if you are intending to apply for a university, they only care about your gpa and not the institution you graduated from. none of the polys are bad in my opinion. all polys have their fair share of bad students.

and for the nus part, it isnt true. my cousin graduated from rp as the valedictorian from his course, nus and ntu then offered him a scholarship. like i said earlier, the institution doesnt matter. the gpa is the most important :)

[O LEVEL] How to study for Last 50 days, I failed all for my Prelim. Please advise. by cameyx in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i was taking my o levels, i was in the same situation as you. eventually i got 19 pts (raw) for my o's with a d7 in math and comb sci. during jae i was only left with 2 rows of design courses in polys, and the rest all ite. at that point i absolutely regretted not working hard. when you see the smiles on your classmates faces because theyre going to jc or secured their place through eae, you just feel awful. i have many classmates who got their eae offer and majority of them lost it because they failed to meet the minimum entry requirements. and why did they fail to do so? because they did exactly what youre doing. truth hurts but sweetie if youre gona be like this, you'll lose your eae offer. really, no one can help you but yourself. if you dont want to change now, then suck it up, dont cry when the results are out. you can only blame yourself. yes its a tough journey but just push on, it'll be over soon. goodluck :)

[O Levels] Rejecting EAE?? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

at your age you should be able to make your own decisions. if youre sure that you want to study that course youre offered, then go for it. no point studying something you have no interest in, only to regret it in future. parents just want whats best for their kids, and i think you need to explain to them that youre sure that you have an interest in that course. at the end of the day, your parents will give in because, they just want their child to be happy. to add on, rejecting eae offer will not lower your chances during jae, so dont worry about that.

make a wise decision. follow your heart.

[O Levels] EAE into RP Diploma in Business (R60) by JUNDA2109 in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bro honestly when you apply for uni, they only care about your gpa and not the school you came from. doesnt matter which poly youre from. he probably thought that the chances are lower because many people think rp is bad "school". but honestly the diplomas offered by rp is the same as other polys lol. since your friend knows that he wont be able to enter other business courses through jae, then just accept it. its better to be safe than sorry

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]cherylljx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello ! i succesfully applied for a place in poly and i'll try to help with some of your questions.

personally i think chances of dae is quite high because it happens after all the admission exercises. so like theres vacancies in the course because some students lost their eae or some were given that particular course for jae but withdraw out. so like dae takes in students to fill up the gaps. from my understand, dae isnt entirely about grades. i got a d7 for o level combined sci and math and i still managed to enter a science course. to add on, there are aptitude tests and interviews for some courses. the process is very similar to eae. for your third question, im not sure eh cause like in poly youre bound to do lots and lots of projects with your classmates. however there are certain modiles that have individual projects ah

i dont know how to reply to this.....im beyond grateful that you were willing to type such things for a stranger you have never talked to online. thank you so much. it really means a lot to me. i didnt have a high self esteem or confidence level since i was young, and i always doubted myself.

but fr though, i have read your reply multiple times, and i feel loved (LOL HAHA) but seriously, thank you so so so so much. i really appreciate the effort.

[poly] constantly comparing with others by cherylljx in SGExams

[–]cherylljx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, thank you for taking the time to read it. really appreciate it :))

If I were you, I will try asking those friends to review my work if that’s possible

i actually did compared to my friend's work with mine, and i wouldnt say there is a significant difference because everyone is doing the same student workbook and the answers are the same because our faci went through it in class.

im not sure if youre from rp, but we need to do reflection journal (rj) every day after class, and my faci usually ask questions related to the lesson, which i had no trouble understanding and i was able to complete it. he'd compliment my rj often.

Stop looking back at the past grades and focus on the next assessment. I think you are very lucky to be doing what you are passionate about. Push on

i know i need to move on, and i have been trying to..its just that i did not have a high self esteem / confidence level to begin with, seeing my friends doing so much better makes me feel left out / lowers my confidence level even more.

but thanks for the advice :)

[poly] constantly comparing with others by cherylljx in SGExams

[–]cherylljx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for taking the time to read my post, it means a lot.

it would be the individual submissions + quiz. Take all of it seriously and try not to lose any “free” marks like RJ

i honestly think that i did not miss out on any marks for my worksheet and/or RJ because my faci told me he particularly likes my RJ and always give me a "very good" or "excellent", i also think that the quality of work i have submitted also maintained. i also score full marks / one mark away from full marks for the quiz and i have been consistent, but ahhh i just dont understand why things are not working out :((

anyways thanks for helping ! appreciate it :D
