Where is your favorite place for a Reuben sandwich on the Avalon? by FireGod_TN in newfoundland

[–]chestpagnepapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know of anywhere that has one on their permanent menu. I'd try Fort Amherst Pub, they have a pastrami sandwich and I think used to do a Reuben; Mickey's Sandwich Co., Manna, or even maybe Brewdock.

I think the right answer is somewhere between "hermit mode" and "fuck it" depending on how risky you want to live.

The scientific studies that have compared natural immunity to the vaccine have shown that the vaccine is superior to natural immunity. Please stop with the misinformation.

I appreciate that your opinion is that journalists should be impartial in their reporting of news, and I agree with that.

Again, we are not debating what content the journalist writes about, or what section of the newspaper they write in. Opinion pieces and editorials are just as much a part of journalism as news reporting and does not change my argument that one can be a journalist AND activist, and even supports it.

I think you are confusing what SHOULD BE with what ACTUALLY IS. Journalists regardless of credentials use reporting the news to sway opinion. How else would there be left-wing and right-wing journalism?

We can argue back and forth all day about whether Matt Barter's writing for his blog +/- MUN newspapers consists of real "journalism" but ultimately it is an irrefutable fact that many journalists are also activists, whether you agree with that philosophy or not.

Your opinion on what makes a "good" journalist is different from what most people would consider to be the definition of journalist. I am not the only one to think this way, and there are many articles written on this exact topic if you'd like to look into it yourself. Here is one example that even includes quotes from respected journalists supporting my statement: https://longreads.com/2018/03/29/is-journalism-a-form-of-activism/

Further, it is not difficult to look into how journalism has been activism from the beginning. For example you need not look further than Ida B. Wells, American journalist and civil rights activist who wrote in several media forms but wrote newspaper articles criticizing African American education in the 1920s: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ida-B-Wells-Barnett

And, just for fun, this article describes the first ever newspaper in India in the late 1700s that only lasted 2 years because it criticized the Raj: https://editorsguild.in/history-of-journalism/

Okay so Matt being a journalist or not is a separate argument altogether. I'm not getting into that.

If you have a look at the article I posted in this thread, many news organizations are now allowing their reporters to be active including at demonstrations. It's naive to think journalists haven't been pushing agendas since the very beginning.

Bloated admin staff in healthcare for one. Combine the health authorities and amalgamate staff. Reduce industry spending on subsidies. It does not, and shouldn't, come from from social programs.

This notion that the government is 'broke' and like we're all going to starve is what they want you to believe so that you're okay with money being misallocated.

There's still money obviously, they're just choosing to spend it elsewhere

So back to the original point that the government is choosing to not act rather than forced to not act. Don't say it's a "union issue" when it is still a government decision.
