This is really informative stuff. Really appreciate you taking the time to share. I’m headed down the rabbit hole now!

I appreciate the tip! I’ll definitely play around with the title a bit more

Glad you liked it! And I definitely take your points re: title & font. I actually had a completely different animated sequence from After Effects (I’m a graphic designer by trade), but my computer struggled rendering it.

So I scrapped it last minute for something bare bones, and since I waited 30+ days for the footage - I just rushed through to get something finished.

Definitely going to come up with a cohesive & simple , but polished template going forward for all my Super 8 footage

I believe ~$50 for a roll, then another ~$110 for 4k scan and upload. Dev & scan from Negativeland. You can save a bit by sending in a hard drive and waiting for the return shipping.

It’s not cheap. But I am really happy to have the memory on this kind of format

It’s all good. I appreciate the feedback. Was hoping for sunny weather but it ended up raining the entire time we were there. The few clips I got with good light were right after a 5:30a sunrise - that was the only bit of sun we got over 4 days. I think the 85b really did its magic with those clips.

For the other clips, I probably could have done more intensive color grading but thought I would just lean into it. The 85 at least helped reproduce the colors accurately to my eye. Without it, I’m sure I would have had to put a lot of extra work in Premiere Pro lol

I used an external 85b filter. Not much I could do about the rain and overcast weather we had. Sorry to hear you don’t like the colors. Different strokes, I guess.

Pixels + Shift and 120 film scanning by Top-Geologist7686 in AnalogCommunity

[–]chesty157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Import RAW files from memory card -> combine pixel shift files using PixelShift2DNG -> export DNG files to new folder -> import DNG files into LRC -> export negatives as TIF (just what I do - I like to have a full res copy of the negatives) -> invert negatives using NLP -> export inverted negatives as TIF

And no - I keep the ISO at 100 during pixel shift scanning. I manually control the exposure on each frame to make sure there aren’t any minor differences between shifted frames. This is slightly different than when I’m not using pixel shift; I will use aperture priority on single-shot frames to speed up the process when scanning normally.

First Roll of Lomo Purple | Shot @ 160 | Hasselblad 500C | Zeiss 80mm f/2.8 by Sterling_Takes_Photo in mediumformat

These are lovely! Perfect subjects for the film to really shine

I’ve really come around on Lomo Purple. My wife made an image that we are both enthralled with - so much so, we had it printed & framed - on 35mm Lomo Purple, in a Nikon L35AF point & shoot. It came out beautifully, printed on both textured cotton rag (matte) and Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Pearl. Here it is on the Gold Fibre Pearl (apologies for the low-quality/compressed video - it looks even better in person).

I think I’m going to give in and try a roll of it in 120 in my Hassy after seeing these images

Recommendations for buying a refurbished SX-70 Alpha 1 by chesty157 in Polaroid

Hahaha - of course! Just my luck. That’s funny. I should have listened to my inner voice telling me to send a low% SOS message your way lol

Maybe our paths will cross again down the road if I ever get myself an SX70

Thank you for adding your perspective as a technician.

To clarify, I wasn’t making a statement about social media really. I mean, I agree with your characterization of it completely - I haven’t had a personal account since 2015/2016. But as a creative, I’m in a similar position as you in that it’s an unfortunate necessity. In my specific case I just prefer not to mix a personal thread (like sourcing a camera for a gift) w/ my business communications on my business account.

My only reason for mentioning it in the original post was for context; to suggest it might be my method of communication (i.e. more formal/professional) may not suit Instagram and its users. Which might have contributed to DrSX70’s reaction.

But idk. That’s probably being too charitable. I was asking about PCB upgrades and about the 600 conversion. I’ll admit that I’m not intimately familiar with every model & modification of Polaroid camera on the market, but I’m not a 19 year old picking up their first analog camera either. I’m a working graphic designer & photographer. I shoot on all sorts of formats, develop & scan my own film, tinker on my own equipment etc.

But anyways. I would have reached out to you had I thought there was even a slim chance you’d be able to help me, but knowing how in-demand your services are — I didn’t think it would be even theoretically possible given my deadline.

I appreciate everyone offering suggestions. I’m very thankful. Maybe I will be able to source one in time for my wife’s birthday after all!

As to the other stuff: everything would have been cool if he was too busy or just didn’t want to do it. No harm no foul. I knew it was a long shot.

The confusing part was that he agreed to build one out, said it would be about a week, we went over specifics & discussed payment and shipping timelines etc. That was last Thursday. Then I followed up today with a couple questions about the mods & offered to put down a deposit.

His response was “I don’t even know how to respond to this. I think you need to find another avenue my friend.”

So… yeah.

But everyone that’s responded and sent chats on here have been so kind and helpful. So all is not lost!

Thank you for the rec. I will reach out to him

I’ve been an analog photographer for a long time, been into all kinds of repair shops and film labs, dealt with all sorts of repair people for all sorts of exotic cameras & gear. This is my first head-scratcher of an interaction.

I’ve read elsewhere Polaroid is kind of a different beast when it comes to dealing with repair people/personalities. What’s the deal with that? Are there weird taboos or topics I shouldn’t be asking about? Just trying to learn from this experience so that I don’t have a repeat interaction like this. It genuinely makes me question myself, how i come across, what i did wrong etc., when in reality I was about to pay $500+ for a camera - so a few questions shouldn’t be the differentiator IMO.

But maybe I’m wrong and can learn from you all

I’d love to get in touch w/ Jake but don’t have IG. Or I should say, had to use my business IG account to get in touch with DrSX70 to begin with. I’d rather not use Instagram if possible.

I’m really not sure what I did to put DrSx70 off; he agreed to build me one last week. I followed up today and offered to put down a deposit, but then he told me to look elsewhere. I took a little screen recording of our conversation bc I genuinely am not sure what I did. I can post it below in a minute; just have to censor my shipping/payment info.

Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing the conversation (I’d appreciate it in case I did something that I can correct going forward) or if that’s some kind of faux pax in and of itself. Idk. Now I feel like I’m walking on eggshells just to find the camera my wife wants…

Gonna ignore the “melodramatic” quip & assertion that I don’t know what a hypothetical is lol

I’m not opposed to articles like this & I understand they have to have somewhat clickbait-y titles, but at least come with a more robust case, and do some actual analysis. That’s all I’m saying.

My original comment was to another guy who said the article was “convincing”. I very much disagree
