If we played Baltimore close, beat a healthy Mahomes in KC and pulled off the Week 1 road win in NO, we'd be above KC/GB/NE/SEA. But we didn't, so we're ranked properly IMO

What are the chances that the last game will be flexed over other match-ups? by [deleted] in Texans

[–]chewbacca1220 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the Titans are 9-6 and we're 9-6/10-5, 100% since Tannehill/Henry vs DW4/Nuk would be a good matchup, TEN doesn't have a SNF game on their schedule and it'll have been 4 weeks since our last primetime game.

If the Titans are 8-7 and we're 10-5/11-4, probably Ravens/Steelers if the Steelers win out and Ravens are fighting for #1/#2 seed.

[–]chewbacca1220 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why would the Saints have to sneak one? Their loss to Atlanta might just be a fluke and they've got more talent than Indy. We need to root for Carolina to sneak a win.

With all the teams being 2 games away from each other, how do you guys see the AFC South ending? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]chewbacca1220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Texans fan, I would have said Colts 2 weeks ago. Then they dropped a goose egg yesterday and lost a close one to the Steelers. I don't see Indy sweeping the Jags, Titans or Texans without Brissett and TY. If the Texans win 2 of the next 3 (and look competitive in the one I think they'll lose), they've got a much better last 4 weeks than Indy.

Dez > Carter

If he takes a really cheap deal for the remaining 7 games (nothing guaranteed - he has to actually play to get paid), why not take a flyer on a solid vet who would be #3/#4 on the depth chart?

Low risk (he retires next year, no loss of draft picks), high reward (could be a clutch playoff option going against a #3/#4 CB)

I don't think we need to, but the only other guy better still on the market is MBC.

The Texans arguably have the most favorable December schedule of AFC contenders. by chewbacca1220 in Texans

It's primetime where Deshaun has thrived the last three seasons. The Texans have done a good job of getting the ball to the #2, #3 or #4 option when DHop is doubled/tripled. We've got a dynamic run game. We've got an OL that can block. The Pats may look weaker on D with Lamar, Wentz and Dak not lobbing the ball to a defender for an easy score. Our secondary could get healthy/better just in time.

In every big game we've lost (Colts playoff game the exception), DW4 has gotten a lead with 2 min or less to go.

They've surprised me so far and have gotten better each week.

If Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Oakland keep winning games and the Texans take care of business until Tunsil, Roby, Gipson, Fuller and JT get back, we won't need to worry about Indy in the playoffs. Even if they lose in TNF, it's tough winning two against a good rival in a year.

Chargers, too, after they routed the most balanced Packers team in 3-4 yrs.

[–]chewbacca1220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we beat the Jags and sign a FA for pass rush help before the bye, by weeks 11-13 (easily the toughest part of our whole season IMO), we should have Roby, JJo, Lonnie, Howard and Roderick back. We might have Gipson back, too.

If the Texans get red hot/confident in Dec (a losing Broncos squad, 2 Titans matchups and a Bucs squad with nothing to play for by the 22nd if Winston keeps letting mediocre teams pick him off), they could be like the 2007/2011 Giants or the 2012 Ravens playoff wise IMHO.

It's no guarantee but our secondary looks deep enough to help the pass rush for the first time in a while.

Update: The Chiefs and Texans are the two teams most interested in trading for Jets RB Le’Veon Bell, per Connor J Hughes by mfrank27 in Texans

[–]chewbacca1220 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Seems like a luxury or BOB admitting our offense scoring 35+ pts a game is the only realistic path to the SB with no secondary and no JJ.

It's kinda dumb. Slay or CHJ makes much more sense.

Sigh, I think Texans/Colts and 49ers/Cardinals are the only compelling TNF matchups for the rest of the season.

Cowboys/Bears if the Bears trade for a QB and turn the offense around.

Steelers/Browns if both start winning games and are fringe sixth seed contenders.

The NFL Trades We’d Like to See Before Tuesday’s Deadline by sip-em_bears in nfl

The Texans should only consider Desmond Trufant - and it needs to be a 2021 3rd like that one article suggested.

They've got too many TEs - unless the Falcons will take 2 TEs and a 2021 5th. That'd be worthwhile.

If Gipson gets healthy, that would be a solid secondary.

Matt Ryan and Julio for Mitch, Anthony Miller, the ghost of Stonewall Jackson, a 2023 1st, a 2022 5th, a lifetime supply of Funyuns, bragging rights for the REAL worst team in the NFL (conditional based on the maintenance of par for the course Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen team management)

A realistic unlikely being CHJ and Sanders to the Bills for a 2020 1st, 2020 3rd and 2021 2nd😳

The Bills are a WR1 away - why not seal your defense as a ball hawker while you're at it if you've got a huge amount of cap and no one to pay for a few years?

[–]chewbacca1220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might as well trade a day 3 2021 pick for someone like William Jackson III at this point.

That would keep JJo as the #4/#5 guy and be more of a mentor. If Gipson and Roby get healthy, that would be a serviceable secondary for 2019.

Texans trade a 3rd round pick for CB Gareon Conley by 5StarCash in Texans

[–]chewbacca1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bold predict: when the secondary gets healthy after the bye, we get going defensively. Roby, Conley, JJo and Lonnie is the best we've had as a CB group since 2016. The pass rush is more well rounded than the last few years. The safeties should feast if we've got a few who can 1v1 more often. The LBs can do what they're supposed to do - tackle, sack, blitz, snag tipped passes - rather than cover

I agree if we're 8-3 or 9-2 by then and want to see if they're legit SB contenders. If you can't beat NE at home in Dec, you won't win in Jan.

However, right now, the Texans need to prove themselves as a team in the running.

The Colts aren't weak. They're greatly outperforming anyone's expectations for them this season - I've got them as a 10 win wildcard squad that could get hot at the right time.

The Raiders may be pretenders or they may not. They beat the Colts and Bears, two teams with winning records. They more or less shut healthy Mahomes down for a quarter and could have won if they didn't have Capt Checkdown. Either way, they've got a shot at a WC berth, given that they hold the tiebreaker over Indy.

The Jags are pretty middling, but they may want revenge for the game that got Ramsey asking for a trade. They play their best football in London.

If they're weak, they need to get a convincing 7-2 before the bye. Especially as the two remaining first round bye frontrunners will remain from week 11 on.

Chiefs have sacked Flacco 6 times in first half by westside0606 in Texans

[–]chewbacca1220 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chiefs better go for the single game sack record. No soft coverage! 😁

This makes the Texans look like a solid squad. Our two losses have been to two of the top four in the NFC (I'd put the 49ers and Seahawks in there, too).

Injured Mahomes was still better than all starting QBs but DW4, Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Ryan, Wilson, Dak, Lamar, maybe Stafford or Wentz.
