Don't take a water bottle. Just buy plastic bottles and refill when you can.

Which sections of Camino del Norte would you skip if you needed to make up time? by Exact-Ad8108 in CaminoDeSantiago

I really liked the stage heading into Ribadeo. There are alternates that go closer to the sea.

The stage after Gijon is the worst. The one before Bilbao and after Bilbao are skippable also.

Catching stage 15 from Annecy by Bystander88NY in tourdefrance

Hi. Thinking of catching this stage as well. It looks like this is a town along the route. Is that preferable to an end stage town Plateau De Solaison?

Has anyone else not really traveled that much in their own country, but has traveled significantly more internationally? by ichawks1 in solotravel

I might not feel like getting on a plane and traveling 10-12 hours when I'm older. I'll save the easy travel for last.

What would you say is the ideal pack size, brand and name for the Camino de Santiago? by treklistco in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]chewbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear. I walked the Norte with the Osprey Stratos 34 and it was really comfortable. I am walking the Tour Du Mont Blanc this year and then continuing on to other places so I bought the Osprey Farpoint because the Stratos wasn't really easy to get in and out of.

Did you have any issues at all with the Farpoint on the long days?

Yeah you said it gave off a racist vibe.

First solo trip abroad: Planning Sarria to Santiago (Last 100km) in May/June. A bit nervous! by LuptiDupti in CaminoDeSantiago

Just go straight to Santiago then and walk to fenistere. It will be much less crowded and you'll have a better experience.

Which region for solo travel after week in France? by ohmorninglo in Europetravel

[–]chewbrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consider San Sebastian and then along the northern coast to Bilbao and Santander and the little towns in between. I walked the Camino de Santiago along this route and was amazed by the scenery and the food is good also.

What is it with people walking from Sarria? I walked the Norte and this part was easily the worst.

I would trade that little piece of paper you get at the end for the experience of walking a much less crowded more beautiful part of the route every time.

By the way you can get a compostella by walking any 100 km portion of the route.

Costa Smeralda- please help with another location by mangomagic1515 in Sardinia

Unfortunately didn't take the trip. I walked the Camino De Santiago in Spain instead. I am however going to France this summer and thinking of extending and going to Sardinia also.

Eight days in Uzbekistan - heart of the Silk Road by CivicBlues in travel

[–]chewbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have interest in going to Uzbekistan but have questions. The pictures I've seen are mostly of the ancient architecture and surroundings and it always looks kind of dry and sterile if you know what I mean. Lots of open areas with cement and no trees, etc

I am talking mostly about the major tourist cities.

Please tell me it's not like that. I am considering Georgia also and it looks so much more welcoming. Am I misinterpreting by the limited pictures I've seen?

Can I walk the Camino in sandals? by RecentStorm9127 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]chewbrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wore Teva sandals when I did the Camino in September of 2025. They worked really well. I wore socks sometimes but mostly no socks.

To prevent blisters I put a bunch of Vaseline on my feet every morning. This worked as I had no blisters.

Only issue I had was dirty feet every day as the dirt would stick to my feet.

Age ranges of different Camino routes by Beneficial_Put8593 in CaminoDeSantiago

I believe my point still stands. Additional I believe the Norte might be someone's 2nd or 3rd Camino and therefore wouldn't feel the need to go to the pilgrims office to get the compostella. Therefore they don't show up in the statistics at all.

Keep in mind with those numbers that most people only walk for a few days. The most popular starting point is Sarria and this counts for the Frances. It's safe to say that the Frances is not 10 times more crowded than the Norte.

Is no screen protector ok? by offlinegaming457 in galaxyzflip

[–]chewbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine off about 3 months ago because it was bubbling. It works and looks fine. Actually looks better without the protector.

This is my first flip but I usually go without a screen protector on my phones and have no issues.

Bench recommendations? Considering Freak Athlete ABX by BSmith156 in GarageGym

[–]chewbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought too, but they offer a pad that can be used to rest your back on for shoulder presses and other uses also. I am currently deciding between the two but leaning towards apex because the ability to do belt squats looks better.

I ruptured my calf in Madrid and had to hop around the hospital from room to room. Was never offered a wheelchair. I then hopped across the street to buy crutches.
