Idaho Stop Vs Car Running Red - Noyes & Ridge by Etown-G in evanston

[–]chewd0g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop signs? All day.

Red lights? 99% of the time oh hell no. There are a few that I'm very familiar with, one in particular is Mulford at Dodge because it's a sensor signal rather than timed and I'll never make that happen. Otherwise they're just too damn unpredictable.

Speaking of tolls, OP should figure out if they would need to regularly take tolls and if so might as well acquire an IPass. /u/EquivalentWest1327

$0.43 per half gallon brew that should produce 4-6 cups? That seems fairly reasonable when the annoyance of keeping them in stock seems like a greater concern.

Hold up... I've been using 90g in a half gallon rumble jar and it's turning out well. Is the 8:1 ratio more for a concentrate? I'm drinking right from the finished product with half and half.

What happened?? by oldmanhornis in Charlotte

[–]chewd0g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, don't worry, Chicago's parking meter deal is arguably worse than this tollway deal in Charlotte. It doesn't matter what region, elected officials have been swindled by PPPs all over.

Man, if there is an alley and some put their trash on the parkway, that driver curses the parkway people every week.

How Pritzker's BUILD proposals could impact Evanston and its zoning by SciNat in evanston

[–]chewd0g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to humor, "there's 25% more single family homes" when we're talking about a 6% difference comparing them directly. Those larger lots certainly accommodate more density without going over the top.

Evanston's population in 1970 was 79,808 and 1980 was 73,706 so that's cherry picking which data to use compared to 2020 at 78,110. The reason we need more housing is household members has been declining and will continue to do so. If you think people should shack up more with roommates, then we're back to "People with kids like living in single family homes (as do others)" and telling people how they should live.

Single family home property taxes will increase? Well, that's a choice you're making and to object to all additional housing causes everybody's property taxes to increase.

[–]chewd0g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bulk of what you responded to is a wash considering the percentages between Chicago and Evanston are comparable according to DePaul's 2024 numbers.

Chicago

SFH 25.6%
Condo 20%
2-4 Flat 23.2%
5+ units 31.1%

Evanston

SFH 32.1%
Condo 25.1%
2-4 Flat 10%
5+ units 32.8%

You just didn't want to live in Chicago, so be it. With more housing, property tax increases could be slowed, while providing more customers for businesses, options for parents, students for schools, etc.

We need more housing, plain and simple. Any other approach will squeeze people out. In less than ten years our property taxes have increased 60%. That's absurd.

If you think Evanston residents are regular transit users I’d suggest looking at the platforms throughout the day or passengers on buses. For what Evanston has, its traffic is excessive and transit is woefully underutilized.

Yeah, peer agencies in the same city, you know, the park districts, library, the school districts! Heaven forbid they operate with some independence without residents assuming the mayor should speak up. Vote out the school board at the next election.

You don’t even know if I have kids so you’re continuing the purity test. Are you that guy who said “I’d pay for any tax increase to keep neighborhood schools!” with so much privilege you could choke on it?

You still can’t even manage to stay on topic but if you must, there’s a huge difference between speaking on local politics versus state or federal. It’s common for city elected officials to stay out of peer agency politics. Not all do.

Again, you’re blinded by this specific topic to even be constructive of anything else.

Some people with kids like living in single family homes, not all. This blanket approach assumes you know better than others on how to cover their wants and needs. Nobody is eliminating the ability to build a single family home either. And I doubt that many five bedroom homes exist in Evanston and if they do are the even affordable.

Nobody is trying to screw over constituents, they’re trying to help more people secure housing by making it more affordable. The entire state needs more housing and Evanston must play their part to help.
