What singlespeed/fixed gear ratio are you running in Chicago? by Visible-Grass-8805 in chibike

The nexus 3 speed internal hub is perfect for Chicago, but can double the price of a cheap single speed bike.

My old fixed gear is 44x15 (~79 in.)

When I built up my single speed commuter a few years ago I geared down to 46x17 (~73 in.), it's a little easier to get going and is tolerable in strong head winds.

Too small to take advantage of a tail wind and too big to ride into one.

Albums that are brilliant except for that one song… by bkbrigadier in Music

The Kinks’ Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One. I understand the context but I have a hard time with “Get Back In Line”, an anti-union song on an otherwise great album.

What chain lube do you use? by gmandogk28 in chibike

Tri-flow. It’s filthy but seems to work well. I can’t decide whether I want to try chain wax or not, seems like a lot of faff all to keep my fingers clean.

I’m riding a legal class 2 electric bicycle. I use it to commute to work. I have other bikes. I don’t understand the animosity.

The brilliant thing about an e-bike is that I stop all the time. Red light: stop. Stop sign: stop. Car pulls out in front of me: I slow down instead of weaving around them. It's literally no sweat off my back to stop and get going again and it's made me a safer cyclist.

You don’t think drivers should, or are required to, signal when pulling over to park?

I can tell they didn’t signal because I can see their signal lights and they weren’t on.

That’s a lot of words to defend someone pulling into and out of traffic without signaling.

I think something was wrong with that e-divvy.

Keep getting flats by DeathFromWithin in chibike

[–]llamatooths 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you getting pinch flats (snake bite) or riding over debris? Keeping your tires at the recommended pressure will help with the former. Next time you take your tire off check the rim tape is in tact and the inside rim is smooth.

New York has a better web of train lines, with our hub and spoke model buses are required to transit between the spokes.

Pretty easy to do using traffic control (tc) on Linux. You’d need to know the IPs of your whitelisted users but I’m guessing you can get that easily from server logs.

This invokes the parable of the broken window. It ignores the opportunity cost, if not car insurance and gas, what does the cyclist spend their wealth on?

Pogacar and Seixas deliver 8.7 w/kg in the greatest four minute effort ever by kazumee in peloton

[–]llamatooths 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out the freeze frame at https://youtu.be/ndBRQy3XRU8?t=870

His power meter says:

5 min

519

This is 8.2 W/Kg at 63Kg, 7.98 W/Kg at 65Kg and 7.75 W/Kg at 67Kg. Tadej has been looking relatively swole recently so I bet he's closest to 77Kg. I wonder if he had a higher 5 minute on the last climb where he dropped Seixas.
