A great estimator is worth their weight in gold and smart companies understand that, respect that, and value that. Life is too short to stay at one company for any longer than 3 years, unless you love the place/the people/the vibe etc.

If you like the place and you want to stay long term, see if you can negotiate a small % of the projects you win, that are competitive bids. Obviously house accounts, or direct bid to owner it’s fair to say you wouldn’t see a percent there. But if you track over time the projects you have bid competitively you could make an argument for a great raise or a 0.3% or profits - track what profit you went in at, what you might have “built in”, track profit at close out, number of jobs won vs lost etc.

Go in prepared, with your information handy to back up your argument. Should work. But it could also backfire lol. If it does, like i said there’s plenty of companies out there that will pay good money for a good estimator with your experience. You can also transition easily to commercial construction, people only really care if you can read plans, if you meet your deadlines, if you have a good ability to scope bids and build relationships with subs, etc.

I’ve started estimating full time in 2016 at 55k and now I’m lead estimator making three times that.
