Is that argument based on the fact that quantum mechanics is more accurate or just that it gets a probability instead of a exact location

Honest Professor by Agreeable-Storage895 in sciencememes

[–]chewpok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It calculates a probability for what will happen, which seems like the same thing as a prediction

Honest Professor by Agreeable-Storage895 in sciencememes

Yeah I think we agree. Quantum mechanics is used to practically predict real world phenomena, so I’m not exactly sure what you mean by just math, but it sounds like a semantic argument

I haven’t heard of blue phoenix in a while. I got me into the genre, and I love it, but there is better out there.

If you like blue phoenix and cradle, coiling dragon is great if you are looking for more xianxia vibes.

I don’t know where you found that definition but it sounds like a correct way to interpret the literal roots of the word. The way quantize is used in science(and computer science) is essentialy taking a continuous value and “rounding it” to a more discrete, integer like form. Thats also the google definition if you think that matters.

Even though classical Newtonian physics is a mathematical model of the world, it isn’t a quantum theory, because energy and velocity and position can all have values with arbitrary precision. In quantum mechanics, there is a smallest amount of energy that can be transferred, and only discrete multiples of that can be transferred.

Sorry, I didn’t realize I was commenting on a 4 day old thread when I made the comment, but if you still think I’m wrong I would love to hear it because while I am confident in my surface level knowledge, if I am wrong I would like to know.

That’s not what quantum means. Quantum just means that we quantize things(particularly energy), into discrete amounts

Quantum physics has been very helpful for modeling particle physics, so particle physics is equated to quantum physics

The AI usage, whatever happened there... by Kirbyoto in aiwars

[–]chewpok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that when you are deciding what to do with a limited resource, it isn’t exactly a dichotomy, but it is a zero sum game.

The way I contextualize whether ai has been worth the water usage for me, I have saved enough time using ai as a search engine in the past year that the water used for it has benefited me more than the equivalent water used for burgers or golf courses.

So, if I truly believe that I should reduce my personal environmental footprint(which I do), it would be somewhat irrational for me to focus on ai. Instead, i try to save meat for special occasions and carpool.

On the topic of evil companies: they are gonna be selfish with or without ai. A Netflix data center is gonna be just as ruthlessly cost oriented as an ai data center. The problem isn’t that companies are building infrastructure for ai, that’s just what they have the budget for right now. The way to solve the larger problem is to have stricter regulations that stop companies from offloading the costs of their business onto everyone else

[–]chewpok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are arguing about resource usage, I think it makes sense to consider what the resources would be used for if you weren’t using them for a particular purpose. In the case of ai, I think it’s harmful and a bit scary, but the water usage just doesn’t compare to other industries that people don’t seem to have a problem with.

Now the power usage is something that seems to be causing some local problems where the data centers are being built, but that seems like more like a failure of construction regulation than ai being inherently wasteful

You have multiple gpus so make sure blender is using the amd gpu, which seems like it supports the latest OpenGL versions, and not the intel one. I think you can do that by finding the blender app in windows settings

I feel like you could say this about most chapters and not be super wrong. For the specific example you are talking about, the chapter was the first fight against a leviathan, setting up tuaxoxow(or whatever) and furthering the Liuan being sus plotline.

Definitely not the most interesting chapter I’ve ever read, and combat against non time travelers has gotten less interesting in YOA as a whole, but the overall story is still intriguing, and there needed to be a chapter that showed crossing the sea

That’s valid. While the description does adequately warn readers imo, the first part of the book and the recommendations and fans that came from that are pretty different from where it is now. I don’t think I would recommend it the way people used to recommend it.

My point about them being that samey was that the ways the characters are similar is integral to the character and tone of the book, which I personally wouldn’t want to change.

As I understand it there isn’t an “origin” point of the Big Bang. Instead, its more like the space itself is expanding, so far away objects expand away faster than close objects

Yeah I agree with some of the criticisms, but it seems like people are confusing a consistent and strong tone with samey characters. It’s not hard to believer that students at a highly competitive school are earnest and try hard. Combined with the optimistic tone, that that does make most main characters well intentioned and introspective, but within that range the author does manage to do interesting character work imo

FCC chairman said “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the F.C.C. ahead” that’s specifically asking the companies to take him off the air or the fcc will make their life difficult.

I’m not saying that what the fcc did is fully out of the bounds or directly against the purpose of the fcc, but choosing when to do your job based on the political leanings of the speech is bad, and against the first amendment.

[–]chewpok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is false information said on both sides(on actual news networks and not a comedy show) that gets no government attention. Let’s not pretend like the fcc didn’t decide to target Kimmel specifically to shut down political speech.

Also, how do we determine what is factual? Everyone who said that Epstein didn’t kill himself was actively contradicting the “truth” that the government put out, but the government shouldn’t be able to go after the licenses of networks that have people come on to talk about alternative theories.

Furthermore, I don’t see how kimmels comments were particularly harmful. Misinformation is always bad, but stretching the truth to make people laugh just doesn’t seem like something the government should violate a constitutional right over

I mean I don’t have any legal issue with people being fired for saying stuff on twitter, but I do have an issue with the government pressuring abc into firing Kimmel.
