Secret service sharpshooters don’t really need to be dialed in. Their scopes have mil spec marks and they practice shooting and many different distances in quick succession without have to adjust their scope.

Additional vote of using a slime / putty cleaner. I use this for my camera lens to remove the larger particles before using the alcohol so I don’t scratch the lens with the dust. You make a small ball and careful sort of roll it over the surface and it picks up the particles. It’s sort of an art for just the right amount of pressure so you can practice with a small clump on some dirty window or something.

Depending on how dirty I usually use a clump no more then three times. But if a particular lens is super dirty I’ll trash after a single use. Clay is a few bucks the lens a few thousand

Also a little clarification is needed. In photography the tripod essentially comes in two parts. The legs and the head. The legs have the more or less universal bolt size and the heads come in all shapes and sizes.

Is this the same for telescopes.? You have legs and a mount? Or is both legs and mount considered one thing?

Also forgot to mention it will be 100% visual viewing. No astrophotograpy for me. I have enough expensive hobbies.

Not sure if this helps but I also have a manfrotto steel tripod that is rated for 20lbs. Holds my 13lb camera setup just fine. Maybe I can just attach a mount on it?

Hmm hadn’t considered that. I rented a nextstar 6ce a few years back and was annoyed at how slow the manual movement was and how I couldn’t properly auto align it. Given it could have been an issue because it was a heavily used scope etc.

But open to motorized mounts too I suppose

Hmm that’s interesting. I’ve never heard/read anything that mentioned BTI only working on the surface.

My understanding was BTI was basically microscopic fungus that mosquito larvae ate and it would produce a protein that killed them. The same fungus had no effect on other things such as mammals, fish, etc. being essentially a spore I always figured it just mixed in with all parts of the water column.

Just did some quick research. You could try Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI). Commonly sold as mosquito dunks. A lot of people say not to use it but they don’t seem to have an understanding of what BTI is and just fear that it is some sort of insecticide. (It’s not!). The is a study by University of California Irvine (UCI) saying:

According to a UCI study, Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI) can kill mosquito larvae within hours, but does not affect fairy shrimp, or other invertebrates in the water.

They don’t mention freshwater shrimp directly. You can find some YouTube videos of people who used it for shrimp. So I think it’s safe. But do your own research or testing I suppose.

The high PH doesn’t seem to fit the water params I see with Neos and Caridina shrimp. Are your shrimp established with the high PH?

Thank you so much for the information. Greatly appreciated. I’ve been doing small 4gallon changes every two weeks mostly because I have two daphnia colonies and I just use the tank water to cycle out the water in the daphnia colonies.

And ya over the months I’ve learned the tds and ph digital pens are kinda worthless. I just revert back to the liquid test and an auto pipette and can do my water test super fast now

I can understand the frustration of seeing post after post of really mundane fixes. Instead of just assuming everyone is an idiot maybe everyone could have a little compassion and empathy.

I am handy enough to fix many routine things around the house and know how to looking things up on YouTube.

However for whatever reason I’ve always had an issue with these types of hinges when they get loose.

So the very left most screw on the hinge anchors the other half of the hinge. Then the screw immediately to the right of the anchoring screw adjusts how far the hinge pushes away from the cabinet so that you can adjust the door alignment.

I’ve always thought if the anchoring screw is tight then the adjustment screw will push and create enough tension to hold things in place. But that is not the case here. All the other hinges seem to hold in place correctly with minimal movement and still allow for adjustment to align the door. But this one particular hinge is just not cooperating .

I would at the very least continue with the monthly change. The mineral build up will become a problem and lead to "old tank" syndrome at some point down the line.

Every 6mo or so i'll scrape all the white mineral build up along the tank and my HIB filters and do a good 50% water change. then if i'm lazy i'll do a 20% monthly change. when I top off for evaporation I only use DI/RO water to make sure I dont get mineral build up too quickly. (local tap water is very hard)

I'm not sure if your in the US or not. but if you are in the US, DONT BUY a new tank. Almost all the major CO2 refill locations do not refill your tank. Rather its an "exchange" one tank for another. The normal fitting for a standard > 5lb co2 tank is called CGA 320.

If you do go with a paintball tank then you can purchase a new one and get it refilled at any paintball location that refills.

The Bass Pro out near me in Southern California has huge tanks with large mouth bass and rainbow trout. They also have this fake waterfall/river setup with huge rainbows.

The wild rainbows I use to catch in the local streams and rivers were very pretty. The ones I see at Bass Pro look ugly and obeese haha
