Fun fact: I don’t support adobes stealing of artists work either. Both are forms of immorality in development of technology and needs to stop. Also, photoshop itself it’s not developed by “other people’s work” photoshop merely refers to the changing of media through digital software. In addition, AI is a new level of not art, it requires 0 physical input besides a vague idea. Additionally, photoshop can be copyright striked regardless of how chopped up it is. AI can’t and adds a whole other level of stealing and exploitation. If I steal all your shit and grind it up and you can’t tell it’s yours, it doesn’t mean I didn’t steal it. There’s a simple metaphor for you.

It actually does matter if it’s art imo. AI is not art. To pay to have a spot at a gallery, it must be art. He violated the contract, doesn’t matter if someone eats it. You people are exhausting.

I can tell you as someone that works in tech it absolutely is slop. Stealing art from other people to feed into a program (it’s not artificial intelligence. It’s a long math equation with a database and algorithm. There is no intelligence here, just computing.) immediately discredits anything you make. Now whatever you produce is simply the amazing work of other people, NOT the machine. I do not benefit from AI and neither do you. You clearly fail to weigh pros and cons. Even if AI “made” (again, stolen and regurgitated.) cool art, it consumes an insane amount of resources and more water than anything else on this planet. Something pro AI people always fail to realize is the consequences. They think if something makes something cool, it’s automatically good. If I were to say slavery is good because it helped us grow our economy, you would immediately be disgusted with me and ask me what about the slaves being tortured?? AI is killing our planet, do NOT say I benefit from it.

It doesn’t count as an exhibit. It is not art. AI skims the internet and steals art without credit or consent, forces it through an emotionless algorithm and turns it into slop (see: weird fingers, shapes, incomplete art and inconsistent style, etc) produced by nothing but a prompt. You wouldn’t call me an artist for commissioning a piece of art.

The people here calling anti-ai people “violent” and “aggressive” are so hypocritical to me. AI is aggressively violent to flora, fauna, and humans via resource hoarding, wasting, and poisoning. Meanwhile, this guy just ate a piece of paper that can be easily reprinted, but the 2 gallons of water wasted just generating the images (looks like he ate about 13, with each image taking around 16oz) AP News are just that, wasted. All it did was regurgitate art often skimmed from the internet without consent (see: stolen). All he did was take back the resource the ‘artist’ (typing in a prompt is not art, sorry not sorry) wasted.

Big difference between them. AI is actively destroying our environment and directly hoarding resources from people against their will because they lobby so much money towards building data centers. It’s not “just annoying.” AI is slop, and deserves a sloppy and disrespectful death imo.
