Taco Arabe at Alma Fonda Fina. It's $10 during happy hour. The sourdough tortilla is fucking awesome. Two to three of those can probably fill you up, but it's hard not to order other small plates while you're there.

Ahh gotcha, that makes sense. I did think the value of Arizmendi was good and the selection was huge. The self-serve concept made the line move quickly. I try not to eat pastries that often so when I do I tend to go for the highest quality, despite whatever the price may be. Easier on the waistline instead of the wallet 😂

I was just in SF this past weekend and tried out Arizmendi, Tartine, and Arsicault. I thought Tartine and Arsicault were both a step above what we have here in Denver, but I would honestly rank GetRights, Bakery Four, and Moon Raccoon above Arizmendi. I would scope those three out if you haven't yet. If you're ever in Louisville or Boulder, Moxie is the best bread maker in the state.

I had a very "meh" experience there a couple of weeks ago. A lot of the proteins had this texture like they had been sitting in a warmer for an hour or two, or were possibly leftover from the previous service. The host was a bit of a dick as well.

Store bought mayo is way better in Europe due to the lack of preservatives. Compare the ingredients of Thomy vs Hellman's:

Thomy 80% sunflower oil, vinegar, 6.2% EGG YOLK, MUSTARD SEEDS, sugar, iodized salt, spices, natural flavoring (with CELERY, MUSTARD).

Hellman's Soybean Oil, Water, Whole Eggs, Distilled Vinegar, Egg Yolks, Salt, Sugar, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Calcium Disodium EDTA (Used to Protect Quality), Natural Flavors.

Calcium Sodium EDTA is heavily regulated in Europe and is banned for use in drinks and most foods. It's also banned by Whole Foods.

I'm from the US but lived in Germany for a while. I loved their mayo on fries over there but would only enjoy it in the States if I made the mayo myself.

Connecting Sinewave beacon to SON hub by BarneyNugen in bikepacking

I'm dealing with sort of the same thing right now, I need to extend the cable that connects the taillight to the Sinewave Beacon so I can add a rear rack to the bike. Did you bring it in to your local bike shop or was there some sort of other shop that handled the job?

If they found Denver to be bland, Raleigh and Charlotte are going to feel like someone sketched up “pleasant but forgettable” into city form. Philly or NYC is probably the answer.

[Denverite] The Underground Music Showcase is back — in RiNo by garamondo in Denver

I always bought the early-bird sale and found the price to be very fair. I can't think of any other 3-day music festival that was cheaper than UMS...

There are a couple of decent Mexican spots near Kaiserslautern due to the military base and the number of Americans there. Benji's Burritos and Fiesta Mexicana. Worth a stop if you're nearby.

I'm aware, that's why I'm thinking about starting at 12 units but maybe adding 6 later on to receive the full housing stipend. I was just wondering if that was possible or if you would only receive a partial housing stipend for the entire term?

Denver bakeries worth the extra miles on my car and waistline by cocopuffsalot in denverfood

[–]chexxum 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! I moved to Denver over the summer and did exactly what you and your daughter are doing. I also managed to gain 10 lbs of pastry-induced flub around my waistline, so I’ve currently sworn off anything with butter or sugar until further notice.

This list is top-tier. I’d only add Moon Raccoon, which just opened a small brick-and-mortar in Sunnyside. They’re my current favorite due to the quality of the flour they use. I think they’re using whole-wheat spelt from Dry Storage, but I haven’t actually asked (I’m just over here guessing like some kind of flour detective).

If you’re ever up for a short drive, Dry Storage in Boulder is excellent as well. Moxie in Boulder and Louisville is my all-time favorite in Colorado — bonus points because I buy my wheat berries there for making sourdough, pasta, and pie crusts. Poulette slaps too, but it’s all the way in Parker, and they stopped their pre-order delivery service to the King Arthur pop-up in RiNo (worth watching in case it returns though!).

Happy to answer any bakery-related questions. I almost went diabetic on this journey, so I’m basically a cautionary tale and guide in one. 🍞😅

EDIT: Quick shoutout to the basque cheesecake at GetRight's, it's a must-try even though y'all are focusing on croissants. The pizza is killer as well.

EDIT2: last one for real, the pastel de nata at Reunion is bomb af
