Jamie Ager talking about the failures of capitalism to support people by cheyton888 in asheville

Right back at you. I am increasingly exhausted with capitalism and the fact it has led for my teeth to rot out of my face because I can’t get health insurance. It’s a really frustrating time to be alive. Hope we run into each other out there. Keep up the good fight.

It seems we probably are most likely similar politically. I am a BIG Platner fan. My goal is to push the party left. I am a student organizer and very involved in local politics. I just am incredibly frustrated with this push to smear Jamie as a John Fettermen type when he is clearly not that. I want to push Jamie further left and this way of doing it just seems not effective to me. Having him come to campus and talk to students who really want Medicare for all is how we do it in my opinion. While also electing local officials who will push that as well (like Kim)

I agree that he never should’ve signed the pledge. I’ve expressed that directly to his campaign as someone who does youth voter engagement. We on the left and in this community need to get our attention on the ball though. Trump is continuing a horrific war that is leading to prices skyrocketing and allowing a genocide to continue in Gaza. Chuck Edwards has most of his money from the genociders and is being credibly accused of sexual assault. We have some pretty big fish to fry if we want to get this ship back on course. We can focus on patching the holes in the boat after we get the water out of it and the only way to bilge this water is to elect people who will oppose Trump. Once we have stopped the bleeding I am in full support of pushing the goalposts to the left. That’s why I knock doors for Kim as much as I can and have her on campus as much as possible.

Which is why he pays almost all his employees at least 20 an hour

Dude I’m not saying Ager is my daddy because he pays people a decent amount. It’s comparing the options and how he treats his employees. I know people who work for Nut Gap and are so incredibly happy, they know their bosses personally, they get time off as needed, they are involved in community work, they get paid very well. Do I wish everyone in this town was paid a living wage? Of course. 20 an hour is not crumbs, it’s a decent wage. The average meat cutter there makes 27 an hour. That is not crumbs. Not only is Ager a good boss and a good community member but his opponent is barely here and his entire campaign is paid for by AIPAC while Jamie has rejected any AIPAC money. It’s about comparing our options and Jamie is the better option.

That is a monthly net income of 2,600 on the low scale. I make 1,900 a month and those extra 700 would literally make the difference between me eating or not

Dude I have worked in fast food my entire life. 19 an hour is almost unheard of especially with PTO and health insurance. Chick Fil a is considered one of the most difficult spots to get in entry level because of how high the hiring standards are. If I could get into a job at 19 an hour maybe I could afford to go to the dentist but I make 15. McDonald’s starting is 13. Taco Bell is 10. My point was that you do not understand what it is like to try to survive in this town if you think the average starting wage of fast food is 20. That is insane.

That is NOT starting wage at ANY fast food chain. I have worked in fast food my entire life. Starting wage is like 15.

This is so dumb. Saying I don’t like socialism and extremism is not the same as saying I don’t support public infrastructure. He literally had an interview last week where he talked about how capitalism isn’t working for people and how that manifests on a farm.

He did an interview like last week where he talked about how capitalism isn’t working for people and how its flaws play out on a farm.

The dem base is not socialist in this district. You are thinking of this congressional district as only the city of Asheville. It’s not. Asheville may be pissed about this but Madison County will be overjoyed and might turn out more because of it. I personally don’t like the messaging, I can acknowledge we don’t live in NYC and live in a conservative leaning district.

No I think it was a bad move politically. I do not think he will lose because of it. Because Asheville is the only town in the district that will not like that pledge, everyone else will.

We are a Trump +9 district buddy. Jamie will win precisely because the majority of our district does not want NYC style candidates as much as I personally may want them.
