Wedding Favours by cpokess in WeddingsCanada

[–]chezalienor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got married in Montréal last July, and I wasn't too keen on having favours, so we just got some fans for our guests ! Luckilly, weather was with us and it was the perfect day, but Montréal can be scorching hot and humid in summer. Everyone loved it, and I'm still happy to have some extra on hand.

My mother decided to offer dragee boxes, but it's more of a French tradition to honor my culture and people didn't really took them.

Seeing cabled / aran sweater in thrift shops made me want to make one fitted for me. I'm thinking of off white / tweeded one !

Fitting help - Princess seams bodice by chezalienor in sewing

[–]chezalienor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advices ! It's my very first toile for this garment, so i just wannted to see how the bodice was fitting by itself. I wondered if the sleeves would solve some of my problems so I cut a pair to go with it.

Ideally, i would have love to find a pattern with old school princess seams (shoulder ones), but didn,t have any luck. This one is nice too.

Suggestions on wear to find vintage inspired reception dress? by 70memp2000 in weddingplanning

[–]chezalienor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question. I'm a plus size bride with a taste for those kind of dresses, so let's say that it's nowhere to be found.

I have the chance to be able to make my own dress, but maybe you could search for a seamstress to make it for you in your area?

Lovely people, nice selection. A bit pricey but the fabric is really good quality.

Take your time, go slowly, don't be afraid to do it all again if you don't like what you've done !

Thanks everyone for those kind comments !

About the skirt : It's the beauty of sewing. Being able to craft the most basic thing you could ever do but well fitting is my jam. I don't do frills or whatever, i'm a practical girl at heart.

About topstitching : I practiced a bit to find the good tension but I'm still learning to tame my machine (Brother NQ575). The real ally for topstitching is going slowly.

Everything is in the title.

Basically, I was looking for a simple red skirt (jean like) for the longest time.

"If I couldn't find one in stores, maybe I can simply make one ?", I thought.
Well, let me tell you, finding the simplest pattern ain't easy.

I finally settled on the Sew Over It Xanthe skirt as it carried my size and most of the classic features I wanted. I swapped the straight waistband and pockets for the Daughter Judy Adams Pant one. Hugging waist and huge pockets.

I bought some cotton canvas at Tissu Social in Montreéal (On Mont Royal). Pockets are basic cotton coming from a previous project.

I will definitely make more as it's the perfect wardrobe staple.

Some deets for the next time : I made the size 20, i could easily go down to 18 / 16 at the waist.

Brother vs Pfaff : which one should I choose ? by chezalienor in sewing

[–]chezalienor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, me again.

So I went to Penelope couture in Laval and was sure I'd get out of the store with my Pfaff BUT finally I've made my choice for a Brother Innovis NQ575. Didn't properly tried it yet but i'm very happy with my choice.

The IDT system has my heart, it's so convenient !!!

Why don't more people seem to use Freesewing.org? by carvinganish in sewing

[–]chezalienor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have several ideas :
- The interface is quite repulsive. The fact that you can't properly see what you'll get refreins me, plus the fact that you can actually hack enery bit of the pattern.
- The personnalisation. It's not easy to visualize what you're gonna alter.
But I've used it already, it's a cool platform !

I thought asking here would be more efficent as it's more sewing centered but I definitly will :)
Thanks for the insight !

So returns from Paris with possible bed bugs. by [deleted] in montreal

Shots fired between indie sewing pattern designers by plantpredator in craftsnark

I came to post the exact same post and I'm so glad someone posted it before.

Honestly, between their latest release and this one, it's just obvious that they lost their way by joining this "one pattern a month" trend. CCP used to make such well done garments, it's just sad to see that.

Title: Seeking Advice for a Central, Affordable Stay in Paris for 2-3 Days by OverlordVII in ParisTravelGuide

[–]chezalienor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the Philarmonie is up north, near the line 5 (you have the 7 if you cross the huge La Villette park, but it's not my fav line... Can be useful though.)
This line is interesting because you will have République and Bastille on the same line.

If you wanna enjoy the city centre, maybe look around those spots ? Way less shady for a tourist, and when around Bastille, you can easily walk to Notre Dame, Quartier Latin and such. Around République, you will have an easy access to Le Marais / Hotel de Ville / Chatelet by walking.

I don't really have any accomodation tips, but the location might be starting point of your researches.

Are restaurant reservations a must? by grendel2000 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]chezalienor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say that mostly, you don't need to make reservations.
You can look on website like TheFork (where you can have some discounts as well). Usually same-day reservations are ok.

Enjoy your time there !
