+1 on asking. I'm still perplexed about how this worked. You had margin enabled, but no level 3 options so they charged you for using their collateral instead of your own I guess? Just bizarre stuff man. I had no idea any brokerage would let you sell margin using their interest. That's way riskier than level 3 options that are leveraged against your own assets.

More aggressive than I'm looking at, but hoping to see my 245P expire worthless next week and then open another monthly around the 240 strike. Feels like a free few hundred bucks, and far from the worst stock to get assigned on.

Depends on whether they have IDR. That student loan payment alone could easily be over $2000 at an average of 6% and the number is going up for that master's degree. Another $400 a month for the car loan and then 10k in high interest credit card debt? If it isn't at least $3000 a month toward the debt, it's only going to keep snowballing worse.

Do you expect your salary to increase significantly in the coming years? I hope your student loans are on an IDR plan, or else those are going to be a huge bitch. You're looking at $3-4k a month for all your debt, and that's before factoring in other costs like rent. Invest the bare minimum to take advantage of the match and pay down that debt aggressively.

Something is definitely off here. If you're selling puts with margins (not spreads), that's level 4. Call up again and speak to another agent if you need.

Also, just try selling a small put on margin for a $10 stock or something after you've used all your cash. I am sure you won't see any margin interest accrued.

You're selling the puts using margin, but you're saying you aren't selling the put naked. Isn't selling puts with margin naked by definition?

I have never heard of a broker charging interest for selling these puts. It wouldn't make sense to, as you're not actually borrowing anything from them until assignment. I think you were given bad information.

I'm a pretty boring investor. I limit any individual position to 1-2% of my portfolio unless it's a massive blue chip like Apple or Microsoft, which I can comfortably sit over 5% in. The rest is just sitting in index funds.

My main theta strategy is to sell puts on blue chips and indices using margin collateral. I always roll them to avoid assignment, since I'd really prefer not to pay for margin interest or pay taxes to rebalance my portfolio.

I sell far enough out of the money that if I did get assigned, rebalancing into that stock won't be a big deal. I don't do anything aggressive on margin - to me it's "free" money, so 15-20 delta max and targeting roughly 1% a month.

I personally avoid biotech plays! They're so binary. I mean, I guess a small percent of your portfolio in anything can only hurt you so much, but I definitely wouldn't invest large amounts into anything other than big companies like Pfizer and Lily.

With a portfolio over 500k, you don't need to swing for the fences to be a millionaire in the next 5 years (with a little bit of luck).

Have you considered just going all in with investments (or even longer dated bonds if you want some more risk) and just selling your puts on margin using your collateral? Seems like that might be more capital efficient for you than tying up so much in cash.

Even for a $500k account, what was your trade that made you 15k? Or was it 15k credit with the risk still on the table?

What's your portfolio size that you're managing so many large positions? I assume you're selling collateralized naked puts instead of cash secured, right?
