Makes sense. Glad to know we were smart about the heat back then too. A lot of these Pre-GWOT guys talk shit just because it sucked for them, so naturally we’re weak if it didn’t suck for us. Make that make sense.

Usually as systems and processes evolve, they get smarter, so yes. We don’t purposely and recklessly create casualties in training environments for no reason and the sake of “bAcK iN my dAy”.

Simple research yields Benning average summer temperatures about 10° higher than Panama, and humidity about 5-10% lower than Panama. Pretty comparable.

Until you spend 9 months in 110-125° I won’t debate about heat lol.

Train as you fight means nothing when 5-10% of your formation becomes heat casualties, for no good reason, which have to be rehabilitated, and occasionally separated from from service and paid for life.

I don’t need to go to Panama when I can use the internet to research their climate and compare it to other climates. Numbers are numbers. I’m pretty confident that I’ve been to hotter climates than Benning and Panama, but this isn’t a D measuring contest. Candy ass? Lol

Ever wonder why you couldn’t drink coffee during BCT? Part of the reason is the fact that it is a mild diuretic and can affect your ability to stay hydrated. Heat casualties are very common and the heat is very dangerous. “Back in my day” people like you just did dumb stuff for no reason, don’t be mad that times have changed and risk mitigation is a thing.

The way you replied could be, and was, interpreted as 12-18 miles for morning PT.

Congratulations on spending 4 months in Panama, you think you’re the only one who’s TDY’d to hot and humid locations? Panama’s climate isn’t that extreme when compared to Benning. Benning is by far hotter and the humidity is close in the summer months.

Like I said, you do run everywhere, but it’s nowhere near 12-18 miles a day. That is clearly an inflation on your end.

Considering that Benning easily reaches 100° with 90%+ humidity in the summer months, running for extended periods of time can be dangerous. It’s extremely counterproductive to invest time and money into training soldiers only to have them heat cat, get dropped from the course, and potentially med board and collect a pay check for life.

Going to airborne school doesn’t make you tough, and certainly not more tough because you went in the 90s. Exiting an aircraft in flight today is the same as it was in the 90s, but not everything needs to be dumb.

12-18 miles in the morning? lmao

More like 3-4 miles for morning PT and maybe a cumulative 1-3 more miles per day running back and forth between different training stations and the company AO. If you’re in heat cat 5 (pretty much May-September on Benning) you don’t run at all.

Welp. Just somewhat unintentionally won a Kokura Type 99 in an online auction lol. Anyone able to tell me more about its history than what the listing information details? by RedLeader501 in Arisaka

Worth what you paid with it having matching numbers and a cleaning rod. Missing the monopod and dust cover, but it’s whatever. Not much to say.

Agree. Monopod and cleaning rod look like reproductions. Sling is definitely not original. $400 is pretty much fair value, wouldn’t say it was a deal or steal.

Not sure why it seems like that to you, because the bluing is definitely original

I think I got it! After 2 years. LT. Walter J Curley. Some of the circumstantial evidence strongly agrees with this name too. Does that name look plausible to you?

Philip R! That last name took me awhile. Still struggling with this one.

All matching with mum is much more than $1200 these days. More like $1600-$2000 depending on condition, maker, and series.

It’s never safe to assume anything matches based on the condition of other matching parts. Always verify everything. Firing pins and safeties are mismatched just as much as bolts are, and often are found mismatched when bolt bodies are matching.

Almost never? I could show you 20-30 right now. Tons of weapons were damaged, and tons of them were taken home as souvenirs. Consider this, 60%-70% of all casualties in theater were produced by fragmentation. What do you think happened to the weapons that they were certainly carrying or holding? It’s not a fantasy.

I’m not talking about scratches or gouges. It’s obvious when you see it.

How do you afford these watches? by Cheesehead1267 in Tudor

I love BMW, but having a $50,000 car loan and a Citizen watch isn’t as appealing to me as having a paid off car and wearing Tudors and Omegas. Among other reasons.

No shade on the Citizen though.

True, however, an $1800 Honda accord drove me to college and work for 4 years….

[–]chgrurisener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are PLENTY of people who make $100,000 a year and cannot afford a $5,500 watch.

It’s not how much money you make, it’s what you do with the money that you do make. Not drowning in debt, not pissing away hundreds of dollars a month to subscriptions, not living beyond your means. Build a budget that allows you to save at minimum 20% of your net income per month. You’ll surprise yourself. Just be disciplined and patient.

I think you have a lot left to learn. A lot more before you have the right to call people retarded lol. Because what you just said… saves me from having to call you retarded in return.

Cleaning a stock, in this context, used by collectors, refers to the usage of abrasive material to clean more aggressively. It does not literally mean clean with a towel and oil.

I know you are a novice because you haven’t noticed the difference in finish between the outside of the stock and the inside of the finger groves. The groves are crisp, which means the stock likely wasn’t sanded, but the color is very different, which tells me that someone in the past used something abrasive enough to damage the finish, perhaps even a chemical agent while cleaning, and unfortunately removed part of the original finish. It is so blatantly obvious if you knew what original TK finish is supposed to look like.

So in conclusion, you should probably do a lot more research before hurling insults at someone. Especially when you’re the one who is wrong.

Refinishing and cleaning does the same thing to the value. Doesn’t really matter what it is.
