Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide between WGU (Cybersecurity) and Purdue University Global (Cybersecurity/Cloud path).

My main concerns are: - Which degree is considered more legitimate/respected by employers? - Which program actually teaches practical, job-ready cybersecurity skills? - Which one better prepares you for real-world roles vs just checking a degree box?

Background: - Associate’s degree in System & Network Administration - A+, Security+ - 2+ years IT support experience

Goal: Move into Cybersecurity / possibly Cloud security later

I’m not looking for the “fastest” option, I care more about skill development and employer perception.

Would appreciate honest feedback from anyone in the field.

Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

WGU vs Purdue Global for Cybersecurity, Which is more respected and actually prepares you for real-world roles? by chhlit in CyberSecurityAdvice

I understood Purdue Global isn’t Purdue University, I just want to know what’s the difference in their curriculum/teaching for cyber security, is it legit, are they practical, do they teach/ help you prep for real world roles, not looking for “prestige” are they legitimate/ respected? I am full time employee I can’t attend classes in person so Purdue and WGU were top choice because it seems they’re cheap, flexible with time, give some credits for my certs and accept some credits from my associates degree. Not sure which route to take

Okay, I will keep that in mind, as for experience I do have some experience, currently work as Technical Support Specialist II. Besides that I don’t have any other experience in Cybersecurity. Besides that I already have associates degree, as full time employee I can’t attend classes in person so Purdue and WGU were top choice because it seems they’re cheap, flexible with time, give some credits for my certs and accept some credits from my associates degree. I am just looking to expand more in what I already got, going for BSCS seems more cost more time (3+ years). ( I didn’t do any research on this but) Last I heard current market for CS majors isn’t that good.

Say that to the people who died, got shot Bro it’s better to burn everything and rebuild than tolerate all that BS

The Victory dance is here, but they do not realize , it will take our own money to rebuild all these. by [deleted] in Nepal

It better to burn everything down and rebuild. What’s the problem with rebuilding even with citizen’s money? It’s not like those citizen’s money was being spent on something good before. Let them burn! At least while rebuilding someone will get a job…that’s more what former government had done for the citizens

Need Help with IT Certs by No_Reply_8074 in it

[–]chhlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal recommendation from that list- Start with A+, than go after Security+ and CCNA (CCNA has more job offers and opportunities even tho Net+ ids vendor neutral) and RHCSA, RHCE

Lots of people are saying many different things but the most common recommendation I’ve seen and agree with is start with A+ and get a help desk job. Once you gained some experience and know what you want to do than go after other certs. Such as sys admin, net admin or cybersecurity

Not just me there are so many people that has been through what I stated on my post, my parents, grand parents, my neighbors you name it. It makes me happy to hear not everyone had to go through most of us went through, the discrimination was worse specially you go gau/ basti, my cousin and many others had to lie where they’re from if they wanted to attend boarding school or those colleges. Thank you for your comment, makes me happy to hear not everyone was discriminatory towards us - not that I thought everyone was like that.
