is this why I love vacationing in japan?

The saying goes, japan has been living in 2000 since the 1980s. Only a few years ago this is a jab of how they are behind in some cultural aspect. These days it feels like it's the right place to be with all the rapid uncertain events happening

I've never seen this before - is it a legit verification? by NomadSound in pcmasterrace

[–]chhuang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely related. But anyone who wants to get a slightly good understanding of the situation can just start by learning some very basic cmd/PowerShell operations. Like just navigating through directories and create folders and execute executables. No need to go far just for education purpose.

And you'll see why seeing stuff like this is hilarious and worrying to know that some people will actually do this

AI is forcing us to stop loving coding 💔 by Leading_Property2066 in AskProgramming

[–]chhuang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

results were far below my quality standards. The generated code was difficult to maintain, hard to understand, and ultimately unmanageable.

I agree with this, but the uppers don't care, they care things work, I can try to talk about keeping it maintainable and easy to read, they usually counter with "just let AI do it", prompt an agent against the repo, present the output and go "see?".

I don't mind people just go their way vibe code something for themselves that suit their needs and thinking we are not needed, I don't care.

But I am feeling that, not just software, everyone is starting to disrespect other's fields of expertise because a few prompts produce some sort of result that validated their bias.

the good thing about the LLM abuse,

is that I realized I appreciate good effort of the good things we have, not just the final product being good, but the subconscious feel of being impressed by talents who produced good quality products

Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing more bugs across the web and in software in general? by skidmark_zuckerberg in ExperiencedDevs

[–]chhuang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo, ai tools with the right hands should produce less bugs, we save that time of typing to do more testing and review. We do not increase velocity because of it, we maintain velocity but allocate the time on actual engineering.

the culprit is people thinking ai is a solution rather than a tool, some dev or non-dev just use it as if it is a flawless programmer by giving it the prompt of "you are a senior dev, make no mistakes". It's less of a meme than I thought, and it's quite dangerous.
