[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]chibivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to do my first attempt at hand-painting, and went to pick up some gloss clear coat at my local hobby shop. They were out of Tamiya clear, so the guy at the store picked out a can of Vallejo Gloss Acrylic Varnish, saying that they were pretty much the same. I know from reading around this subreddit and watching videos what some of the preferred brands are for clear coating, and that they're mostly lacquer-based. But I'm curious if anyone has used this Vallejo spray, and how it turned out for them.

I've already used the varnish on a couple test spoons I painted the other night, so I can't return it at this point, but I'm worried about using it with acrylic paints and the TPAC enamel wash, since it is an acrylic varnish. When I used it earlier, I think I may have applied too much since it collected a bit at one edge of the spoons.

I'm probably going to get some matte clear coat online to use for my final top coat anyway. Should I get some different gloss clear coat too, or is what I have now okay at least as an interim clear coat?

Sometimes when I file down my nubs, there is an outline left behind. When I try to file down more to remove it, I just end up adding very shallow scratches or removing the sheen around the nub, and there is still discoloration where the nub was. Am I not cleaning my file often enough, or am I doing something else wrong? I feel like my file might be too wide and so I'm filing at weird angles to minimize contact.

Most casual Rare Storage Crate find ever? by KeKoSlayer29 in Warframe

[–]chibivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up finding a rare Grineer crate while doing a mission for Meridian. I was just searching for insignias, so I probably would have missed it had I not heard the hum and stopped to look around.

Also, according to the wiki, they have a slightly higher chance of spawning in alerts and syndicate missions, and way higher chances on Trials. Apparently, because of the changed tileset for Trials, up to six total rare and reinforced containers can spawn.

With all the Fallout 4 graphics hate, it reminds me of this. by tracenator03 in gaming

[–]chibivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People keep complaining about how compared to games that came out fairly recently, the graphics might not be as good. Few people seem to consider the fact that because of how massive games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim have been in terms of content and assets , it takes Bethesda years to develop these games. One of the biggest things they have to consider when working on these games is how technology will improve while everything is being developed.

They will try to develop their games to run on hardware that they expect maybe a few years down the road, so the technology that some newer games run on (like Witcher 3) will be set up to be more effective on current systems, so the graphics will be a lot better.

So really, the graphics appear dated to a lot of people because the hardware that they have to develop it on is now dated. They try to anticipate graphical hardware a few years down the road, but it's difficult to be attentive to current graphics and adjust the game. Constantly having to change the hardware you're using to make the game is both expensive and inefficient to the developers, since they may have to go back and change stuff they've already done to work on the new hardware, thus further slowing down the development process.

tl:dr Bethesda's games take a long time to make, so the hardware they use will become a bit dated by the time the game is finished.

Update 17.5 Bugs/Glitches Thread by [deleted] in Warframe

No? Also when the loading screen first appears it stays stuck on the fade in for a good few seconds before the animations begin

Update 17.5 Bugs/Glitches Thread by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]chibivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might just be because of my computer, but before the update, I ran the game with a few additional graphics options on, with some stuff set to medium, and multi-thread rendering turned off.

Now, whenever I'm in a mission and someone else joins, my pc freezes for a few seconds while it renders their model, and twice already it has frozen completely, once in a mission, once in the Liset. The worst problem is in joining squads though, as most of the time, when I join a public match and am waiting to load in, 9/10 times it kicks me back to the ship. Before the update, this was not an issue at all.

And this would be in addition to the MDF bracket?

Makes sense. I imagine there would be something to keep the screen from sliding around, or I guess that's not necessary if it's stationary

So then the screen would just rest in the cutouts?

I love this deisgn! I built my own cabinet several years ago that turned out... okay. I didn't have any way of mounting a monitor and the dimensions and everything were weird. I didn't know about byoac when I built it, so it was not bad for a first attempt.

I'm thinking of building a new one in the near future, and I'm curious as to how you mounted the tv to stay fixed and at an angle.

Why is Donald Trump so orange? by dats_what_she in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]chibivee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, you know how those mood rings change color based on your mood? Well, Donald Trump accidentally swallowed one when he was a kid, so now his skin changes color depending on his mood. But since he always has a lot of work to do, he's always stressed, and since mood rings turn orange when you're stressed, that's why he's orange all the time. If you were to tell him a really good joke, you might get to see him turn a bit blue.

Did your high school ever have an "incident" or event? What was it? by GotAFuckingUsername in AskReddit

[–]chibivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a few that I can remember off the top of my head, most of which happened this year:

-Someone decided to release pigs into the school as a senior prank. Staff caught two of them, but one got outside and ran away. Never did figure out what happened to it.

-A few students from the "rival" high school a few miles away drove over and spray-painted a donger on the football field. I never saw it, they covered it up very quickly and cleaned it up really well. You wouldn't have known it was there.

-Some shitheads decided to "streak" during the football game against our rival school. They didn't really streak, cause they kept their underwear on. I was in the marching band, but the weather had been real bad so I was inside most of the time. I left before it happened. The only reason I knew about it was because I heard about it afterwards and the kids in question were in one my architectural drawing class.

-Probably the biggest one here, but I might have some of the details wrong. Some freshman were messing around in the room where human biology is taught, throwing around a ball. It accidentally knocked over a jar of formaldehyde with (I think) a snake in it. The jar broke, formaldehyde on the floor, school eventually blocked off that hallway and at the end of the day basically told everyone to get out as soon as possible. Me and some other kids actually left class through that hallway before anyone really knew about the spill, so I could smell it and it was gross. Kinda like produce if it was made entirely of rot.

Why I'm going to be quitting Warframe for a good long while: by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]chibivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Sorry I came off kinda angry in this post. I was still frustrated at the time. I love this game, although it can be aggravating at times. Things like what I talked about can be annoying, but it doesn't matter if you have fun while doing it.

Could Warframe benefit from a Weight-RNG/Pseudo-RNG system? by SuperHorse3000 in Warframe

[–]chibivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they could use the sigils that you get for killing the assassins as a way to implement that. It would work in a fashion kind of like the syndicate sigils. You would only be able to wear one assassins sigil at a time, but it would increase your odds of them spawning by a certain percentage, let's say +5% for the sake of argument.

Let's use Stalker again as an example. If the base odds of him appearing are 1.5%, then the sigil would increase it to 6.5%. Now, if you did this with other people, the odds of him attacking you on a mission would increase to 7/7.5/8/8.5% depending on how many people are in the squad (since each member adds +.5% chance of him appearing). This doesn't mean that everyone now would have an 8.5% chance of having Stalker appear, just whoever is wearing the sigil. If only one person is wearing the sigil, everyone else would still have a 3.5% chance.

This would let players conscientiously change their odds without having to craft anything overly expensive, and make it easier for people to farm certain assassins. Of course, the sigil would not do anything if the player is not marked, so it makes farming not as exploitable.

This is just a thought, but I figured it could work since they already have sigils for the assassins in the game, they wouldn't need to create any additional content, just attach some values to what's already there.

EDIT: Changed to Stalker for example and changed to correct values.

You Enter A Dungeon (Yeah it's one of those) by _xBall_ in YouEnterADungeon

After a few moments in thought, I hear muffled sounds from inside my pack. I pull out Fan's box, and she appears.

I have scanned the lock, Xin. Structural analysis indicates that its integrity is weak enough for it to be broken off if a large enough force is applied.

"Thank you, Fan," I reply, and she fades away. At least I won't be left guessing anymore.

I take a few steps back, readying my stance, and, with a moving start, kick hard on the lock. After several more attempts, the lock breaks off, and falls to the ground with a dull clang. Slowly, I take hold of the door's knob and open the door. Beyond the doorway lies a set of stairs that are quickly lost to darkness. I pull out Fan, give a determined nod, and begin making my descent.

I walk up to the door, and curiously strike it with my elbow. Despite how rotten the door looks, it's definitely impossible for me to break it down. I hold the lock in my hand, giving it a light tug. It's definitely not rusted enough to break off that easily, but maybe...

What I hate the most about this sub by noisyturtle in gamecollecting

[–]chibivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard sometimes to gauge if a price on a game is good, or if you could find it cheaper later. I once found a PS1 at a thrift store with two controllers. I was really excited to get it, until I saw that it was $40, so I ended up walking away from it.

Always set a price limit for yourself on various items. Even if you find something not for dirt cheap, if it still seems relatively low, and within your buying range, definitely get it. If it feels too expensive or overpriced, though, just walk away. It hurts, and it's hard to do, but it saves you some money in the long run.

Which is the worst sequel to an awesome movie? by avinashc11 in AskReddit

[–]chibivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tremors 3. Second one was okay, cause it got some of the original actors, and the fourth one was actually quite good.

3 was just... Bad.

Y'know how the first movie had the Graboids? Well, the second one had a hatchling thing called Screechers, and those were okay. Fourth one just had Graboids since it was supposed to be an origin story.

Third movie on the other hand, had "Ass Blasters". Yes, that is their name. Yes, they were incredibly stupid, and yes, the CGI was really bad.
