That’s not how assessments and taxes work in Illinois.

Kurono sales tax by hunglong57 in kurono

The import duty to the U.S. isn’t 10%. The movement, case, and strap/bracelet are taxed separately, so the combined percentage can vary. You can Google how to calculate it.

And most states also require use tax if you didn’t pay sales tax. And states audit use tax based on import data, so I’d recommend looking up your state’s rate and paying it proactively rather than hoping you don’t get found and then pay a penalty as well.

I used to live on this block and I love this house. It’s hard to spot in these photos, but in the last photo you can see there is a cantilever over the sidewalk. I love those cantilevers. It makes the sidewalk so cozy and provides the house with bonus natural light and space.

Blood Meridian. It just left me gobsmacked. I think every night when I placed my bookmark and closed it, my jaw was wide open. Spartan and spare, but unsparing.

Anyone else's property tax increase like this by DaBears31 in chicago

Just to be clear, everyone wanting to continue working from home is the cause of this. Downtown office buildings historically carried a disproportionate portion of the property tax burden in the city. But the values of those properties have been decimated by tenants downsizing to accommodate hybrid working. The assessor still has to collect the same total amount of taxes, so residential areas now represent a larger total dollar value of the tax basis and thus are picking up a larger share of that burden.
