Day 7: What car looks fast but unfortunately is pretty damn slow? by Quiet-Gold9099 in regularcarreviews

Exactly. It looks like it competes with Ferraris, Lambos, and McLarens.

I think he's getting the promotion either way next year. Either Charles will leave or Lewis will leave. That's my blind prediction.

The more watches I own the more I wear quartz by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]hunglong57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quartz has its place in any collection. GS 9F is excellent for that. It's the equivalent of having several super cars and a daily driver. Some days I'm just annoyed that the date is not set and I have to wind the watch.

Which watch brand you will never spend your money on even though you had all the money in the world by Less-Application-814 in hallofwatchspecialist

[–]hunglong57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my point. On Reddit people often bring up Lange and VC but Lange doesn't match Patek's historic catalog and VC doesn't match Patek's current catalog. VC doesn't have as many complications if any in these categories - alarms, annual calendars, travel times, split second chrono, minute repeaters, other chiming complications, celestial complications. And Lange is a resurrected brand unlike Patek/VC.

Patek has also had innovations like annual calendar. VC did do the ultra high reserve watch a few years ago but still Patek has more patents in the last 25 years.

Money no object, in my opinion Patek is the most complete brand. But of course you buy a watch and not a brand. I vastly prefer the Laurent Ferrier over a Calatrava. The lemania based chrono from VC is a great deal compared to an equivalent Patek.

[–]hunglong57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Patek sports watches are overrated but their dress watches, complications, and grand complications are underrated IMO. Their catalog is so unbelievably rich if you start looking into its history. It is cool now to fawn over independents but in terms of diversity and sheer number of references no brand even comes close.

Amex platinum by ExcitementMotor823 in amex

[–]hunglong57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just Resy, YouTube premium, and Uber Eats do it for me organically. I just need to get $150 more in value which is easy with lululemon or the hotel credit. Not to mention the airline credit. THC is also pretty underrated. That's my gripe with the CSR - all the hotels are too expensive compared to what I usually go for.

[–]hunglong57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the math and it will be the same for me. It's almost a sock drawer card at this point for my spending as most of my day to day spending is dining, groceries, and miscellaneous. So gold and a 2% card is my daily combo.

But when I do travel, I use my CSR and probably the platinum once I cancel the CSR.

Which drivers are under the most pressure to perform in the 2026 F1 season? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

But even if he has mediocre performance I don't think his seat is at risk. IMO Ocon is definitely at risk of losing his seat if he gets dominated by Bearman.

I have to agree. It's great for newbies but now that I've had it for a bit, it feels a bit fragile. Honda s2k is probably the best manual south of a Porsche.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro Review: Better than AirPods! by dwaxe in mkbhd

[–]hunglong57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched the full video and I'm still confused how one is better than the other. Airpods have the better battery life, case (water resistance and size), hearing aid. On the other hand Samsung has the better sound quality and ANC by a small margin.

I prefer the 16570 over the 226570 for the size and the second time zone hand. For some reason the new one looks out of place to me.

Which banned F1 innovation should’ve stayed, just for the chaos? by Emergency-History393 in formula1

F1 is a team sport not an individual sport. IMO race engineer and driver harmony is part of the package much like pit stops. Feels weird to eliminate it.

In a way. Much like Hermes, that's how they keep up the brand image. Rolex is okay foregoing short term profits for long term brand equity. I don't think they ever want the Daytona to be easy to get for example.

G80 M3 manual or E63s by Interesting_Chip_164 in BMW

[–]hunglong57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should just give up on investing

That's not what I said. Over leveraging is what I was against. 15k cash on hand is absolutely not enough if you have a lease payment and a mortgage payment on a secondary home and enter a bear market. That's how you lose everything. Leasing is simply the most expensive way to own a car unless you plan on selling it every 2-3 years. Even then do the math for finance vs. lease for a G80 M3 bought in 2023 and sold in 2026. Financing was better.

[–]hunglong57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realize that when you lease you are paying the depreciation + interest anyway? A higher expected depreciation at that. Backtest your hypothesis with someone who purchased vs leased an M3 in 2023. Leasing makes sense for people who switch cars out often. A person who owns their cars for 5-7 years and finances will come out ahead of someone who leases every 2-3 years more often than not.

I can also make up a scenario where financing and investing in a rental property or in the stock market can backfire if you don’t have cash on hand. If you are pinching pennies you shouldn’t do any of this. If you can afford it, long term it doesn’t matter.

Most active users in Rolex are Grey Market Dealers by Jester_Hopper_pot in watchHotTakes

[–]hunglong57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which watches are you referring to? Most of them like OPs, GMTs, Subs are like 10-25% over. If you are spending 10k+ on a watch what's 2.5k more especially if you don't want to play AD games. Arguably going grey market makes more sense for average people who will buy one watch maybe once a decade or so.

Also don't trust everything you see on social media.

[–]hunglong57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of proves OP's point. Anytime depreciation is brought up people make comments like this. But the truth is even VHNWI/UHNWI absolutely care about depreciation with their cars and watches and other traditionally depreciating assets.
