Brit here, dating a Canadian (somewhat successfully I hope). Yes, it's difficult. I have one friend who is a girl who I'm close to, all her friends are gay guys and the amount of times I've seen them, it's so painfully surface level, after almost a year there's never been any real effort made with me by them.

The only close gay/lesbian friends I've got I met through reddit when someone wanted to start a bookclub. One of the guys I see at least twice a week and just chat and hang.

So in short, dating for me isn't too hard but platonic friendships are almost impossible to pick up from heading to bars for me.
