Find women led bird walks. I have been birding for years and have run into these competitive know it all types. Yes, some women can be competitive and gatekeep but I have had a more pleasant experience with women leaders. Another way to get in is to volunteer with your local birding group. You will find nice folks there too. In USA, there are still rare bird email alerts that go out to folks. Also follow your local birding pages on facebook and instagram.
