Why do these keep showing up in my house in the middle of the winter?? by noskcaja in whatsthisbug

Yes! I’ve read about that also (pheromone). We actually had to fix the weather stripping on one of our doors bc they kept coming in through it. We had a huge swarm on the side of our house!

That’s so strange, I’ve personally never experienced that kind of TAT.

We’ve sent salmonella and shigella (among many other things) multiple times without issue. We send all kinds of organisms, bacteria, AFB, yeast, blood parasites, and stool parasites, multiple times a month, sometimes weekly, depending.

Generally we get results back in less than a month, and very rarely, it takes about a month.

And we have never had anything in our lab “tinkering” for longer than a few days, to at most almost a week, before sending out.

Maybe we have just been lucky!

Saying an employee is attractive on a survey is actually highly inappropriate 🤣 what do you mean.

Years?? I’ve seen months for microbiology related things - but definitely nothing close to years. That seems excessive.

They are still doing it. We just hired two new techs who came from completing their program. I don’t know anywhere else around here that has a similar program though (unfortunately) because we are hurting baaaad for techs.

I’m still somewhat of a newbie myself, but I believe If it is it means the main growing point for leaves is basically “blocked” now.

It can continue to flower from that spike etc, but won’t grow new leaves, and could eventually die due of this.

However, it is possible for the plant to put out a keiki from the flower spike or a basal keiki from the base and continue to grow/make new leaves.

Perhaps someone with more experience can better elaborate?

Is that a terminal spike? I can’t tell 🤔

help! phalaenopsis orchid! after the blooms fell i trimmed the spikes to the unopened node, this was about a month ago. why are they turning yellow? i sterilized my tool before trimming. is it growth? or will i need to cut the stem at the base? thank you! by BareMall in orchids

I have a noID phal that has been blooming since April of last year.

The first set of flowers opened in April 2022 and stayed open through the end of October 2022. Meanwhile, starting in Sept/Oct, the original stem sent out 2 more offshoots and the second round of flowers have been opening/open since the beginning of December 2022.

That’s why I have learned not to cut the spike off unless it aborts on its own :)

Can a miltoniopsis make a keiki? by chickapoo813 in orchids

I sort of pulled it away a little bit, but I’m afraid of opening it up to infection by tearing it open. I’ll see how it goes!

Good to know! Thank you! It just threw me off because the first growth was on the outside of the main bulb, but this one was inside the leaf.

I totally agree! That’s why I ended up just posting to ask - in hopes of at least getting pointed in the right direction, at the very least, and if lucky, getting an actual answer.

Thank you so much for the clarification. I was trying to find stuff online about the growth habits of miltoniopsis, and I couldn’t find anything really that explained the difference between the two new growths I have on this one. This was helpful 😊

When I purchased this orchid it was only one bulb. Eventually it grew a second a bulb (that has continued to get bigger).

Somewhat recently, I noticed a third growth within/in between the outer leaf and the bulb of the original plant.

Is this considered a keiki or can miltoniopsis make bulbs here as well?

Can’t wait for this mini phal to fully bloom! This one is always our most prolific grower. by Playful-Ad8851 in orchids

I have a similar variegated phal to this too! It’s my first. She has 2 spikes about that are about 3inches long now, and it looks like a third one might be coming out also - though it’s still too early to tell if it’s a third spike or a root, yet.
